We’ve had some really high scoring nights recently, and while tonight doesn’t look like it will be on par with recent nights, we do have a very solid eight-game slate on tap for our FanDuel contests. As you probably know, the weekends are popular night for teams to rest players, so be sure to check the NBA Starting Lineups Page to confirm your selections are starting.
Reggie Jackson, Detroit Pistons, $6,600 - I’m liking this spot for the Pistons tonight as they’ve faced three tough defenses in their past five games. The Knicks have been solid defensively this year, but they look to be ready to throw in the towel. Their defense has fallen way off and their defense against PG has been poor all season long. Jackson’s price is very affordable and he’s averaged 33 FD PPG in two meetings with the Knicks.
Shelvin Mack, Utah Jazz, $3,500 - I can’t trust him in cash games, but I like his upside for tournaments. He’s completely ruined lineups in two of his last four games, but has reached 6x value in the other two games. That screams GPP play and he’ll have a plus matchup with the weak Pelicans’ defense tonight.
Zach LaVine, Minnesota Timberwolves, $5,300- His minutes are skyrocketing, but his price just isn’t budging very much. He’s produced at least 28 FD points in four straight games and has scored at least 22 FD points in nine of his last 10 games. Minnesota checks in with one of their highest team totals on the season, and the Nets are 20th in DVP against SG.
Jimmy Butler, Chicago Bulls, $8,700 - I’m curious to see his ownership as this is his first game back and he’s had that red (O) next to his name for a while. I typically like to wait a few games with a player returning from injury, but he appears to have no minutes restriction, and this is a great matchup with Houston. I would expect him to be guarded more by Ariza than James Harden, but Ariza has not been the same defender this year, and Butler has taken his game to another level this year.
Also Consider - James Harden
LeBron James, Cleveland Cavaliers, $9,800 - I’m really looking to spend at SF and C tonight as there are some great high-end options at SF today. I really like Paul George and Kawhi Leonard as well, but LeBron at under $10,000 is the safest cash game option on the board. This should be a highly competitive game with the Celtics, and Boston has struggled to defend SF this season (19th in DVP).
Paul George, Indiana Pacers, $8,500 - George is coming off of a monster game last night and finds himself in another terrific spot tonight. The Wizards have struggled against SF all season long and are 26th in DVP. George has taken full advantage as he’s averaging 48 FD PPG in two meetings against them this season.
Gorgui Dieng, Minnesota Timberwolves, $6,300 - PF isn’t a great position tonight, so I’m looking in the mid-range for a guy like Dieng, who has been very safe recently. Minnesota has one of the highest team totals on the board, and Dieng’s minutes are very secure. He’s produced at least 28 FD points in seven of his last 10 games and is a rock-solid cash game option tonight.
Thaddeus Young, Brooklyn Nets, $7,100 - This is an ugly matcup on paper, but the Nets/Timberwolves should have some fantasy fireworks. Both teams are projected to score way above their season average, and Thad has picked up extra usage with Joe Johnson now in Miami.
DeAndre Jordan, Los Angeles Clippers, $8,100 - It’s almost impossible to go wrong at center tonight as the position is loaded. I love the upside for guys like Towns, Lopez, Gobert and Drummond, but Jordan is my safest option on the board. The Hawks have struggled on the glass all season long, which matches up perfectly with Jordan’s strength in rebounding the basketball. He had 13 points and 19 rebounds in the first meeting, and I’m expecting another big double-double from him tonight.
