There’s one early game today, but this article will focus on the five-game slate for this evening’s NBA action. Here are my top FanDuel targets.
Stephen Curry, Golden State Warriors, $10,700 - Curry is the shiny object and draws a premier matchup against a Lakers defense that is dead last in DvP against PG. The big concern here is the likely blowout, but the Warriors are expected to rest Draymond Green and maybe even Andre Iguodala, so Curry will pick up some extra usage. He was dealing with some nagging injuries but has looked fully healthy over his last three games, as he’s averaged just over 38 MPG and 35 PPG.
Ish Smith, Philadelphia 76ers, $6,600 - Ish has been somewhat volatile with the 76ers as he’ll put up 40 FD points or 15 to 20. However, he’s topped 38 FD points in five of his last eight games, and the Bulls have struggled against PG this season. They are 28th in DvP and could also be without Derrick Rose.
Rodney Hood, Utah Jazz, $5,300 - As long as he can avoid foul trouble, Hood is locked into 30+ minutes a night with Alec Burks out for the year. He’s produced two quality outings in a row and still is priced where he only needs 25 FD points to reach value. He’s hit that mark in two straight games and will draw one of the premier SG matchups against the Kings. The Kings have struggled against SG for several years and are 29th in DvP this year.
Lou Williams, Los Angeles Lakers, $6,000 - There are four quality options tonight at SG, as Jimmy Butler and Klay Thompson are great options as well. If you’re looking for some value, Hood along with Lou Williams look like the way to go. Kobe Bryant has not been ruled out for tonight but sounds questionable at best, so there could be a few extra shots to go around. The Warriors are a quality defensive team, but this game will be played at a fast pace and Lou has taken advantage of his increased offensive usage. He’s been terrific offensively over his last eight games and is still priced very reasonably.
Harrison Barnes, Golden State Warriors, $4,900 - Draymond Green missed last night’s game and is expected to also be rested tonight. It’s a nice opportunity for the Warriors to get Barnes fully integrated back into the offense and that’s what occurred last night. He played 31 minutes and produced 18 points, which are both highs since he returned from his injury, and the Warriors could also potentially rest Andre Iguodala. The matchup is certainly ideal against the Lakers, who struggle across the board defensively.
Kawhi Leonard, San Antonio Spurs, $7,700 - Leonard has struggled recently and his price is sitting at his lowest it’s been all season long. A matchup with LeBron is tough, but it should mean that Kawhi sees some extra minutes to defend LeBron, and I expect him to be extra pumped up for this one. This is a big game and Kawhi has played well against LeBron in the past. He averaged 18.5 points, 9.5 rebounds and 5.5 assists against the Cavs last year, and also produced some big games against him in the 2013-2014 Finals.
Taj Gibson, Chicago Bulls, $4,700 - PF is thin tonight, as the top three most expensive options are either out with injury or are game-time decisions. Taj Gibson is back below $5,000 and offers solid value since Pau Gasol is out tonight. Taj should return to playing 28+ minutes and could pick up some extra shots, as Joakim Noah has been a reluctant shooter this year.
Zach Randolph, Memphis Grizzlies, $6,600 - Randolph started the second half of his last game (Jeff Green headed to the bench), so we’ll have to stay tuned for to see what lineup the Grizzlies roll out there. Regardless of whether he starts, Randolph will see solid minutes off the bench for the banged up Grizzlies. He’s topped 28 minutes in three straight games, and the weakness of the Pistons defense has been against PF.
Joakim Noah, Chicago Bulls, $5,100 - With Pau Gasol out tonight, Noah will likely step into the starting lineup. In the one game that Gasol has missed this year, Noah started and produced 21 points and 10 rebounds in 29 minutes. He’s working his way back from injury so I wouldn’t expect monster minutes, but he produced 5 points, 15 rebounds and 8 assists in only 22 minutes against these 76ers in their last meeting.
