FanDuel NBA Plays: Tuesday

After a quiet Monday, we’re treated to a larger NBA slate tonight. Here are my top targets at each position on FanDuel.

Point Guard

Tyreke Evans, New Orleans Pelicans, $7,800 - The Pelicans point guard has a lot going for him in this matchup. He’ll take on one of the very worst teams in defending the point guard position in the Lakers in what is expected to be a competitive, high scoring game, and the Pelicans may also be without star power forward Anthony Davis. If that’s the case, Evans becomes a near must play as his usage rate will spike tremendously. Even if Davis plays, however, Evans remains a very strong option. He’s a high-floor option tonight with upside to match nearly any player on the slate.

Brandon Knight, Phoenix Suns, $6,800 - Knight will once again be tasked with carrying a huge offensive load for the Suns as they travel to take on the Pacers in Indiana. The Pacers have the reputation as a defensive juggernaut, but they aren’t what they used to be in that area and they have also increased their pace of play. This isn’t an ideal matchup for Knight, but his price is simply too low for a player who has a realistic chance at taking 20 shots. In tournaments, I love pairing him with Paul George as you know both will be in the game if it’s close late.

Shooting Guard

Louis Williams, Los Angeles Lakers, $5,700 - Williams has exploded for a couple of huge performances lately, and could very well be in for another one tonight against the Pelicans, who are one of the worst defensive teams in the NBA. Williams can be a volatile player, so I do like him more for tournaments, but he’s firmly in play in cash games as well with his ability to get to the free throw line and with the way he’s performing right now. Give him an extra boost if we learn Kobe Bryant and/or Anthony Davis will miss out tonight.

Jimmy Butler, Chicago Bulls, $8,700 - Butler continues to assert himself as the Bulls’ best player, and is a solid option each and every night the Bulls take the court. He’s playing nearly 40 minutes per game and averaging over 40 FanDuel points per game over his last ten contests. Tonight, he’ll take on a Bucks’ squad that has one of the NBA’s worst defensive efficiencies, and who he just destroyed for 49.4 FanDuel points a few games ago. Expect more of the same from Butler tonight who is, by far, the safest option at a tough shooting guard position.

Small Forward

Jeff Green, Memphis Grizzlies, $4,700 - It’s always a good idea to target the Houston Rockets, who have consistently given up the most fantasy points against all season long. Green is an unreliable player who can disappear at times, but he’s performed well in high-tempo games this year that fit his style of play. This game will certainly be played closer to Green’s preferred pace than the Grizzlies usually play at, and he makes for a solid price-saving option at small forward tonight.

LeBron James, Cleveland Cavaliers, $10,200 - I love the matchup for James tonight against Chandler Parsons and the Mavericks, who are overmatched against The King. Parsons will be unable to slow James’ drives, and the Mavericks lack rim protection to stop him from finishing once he gets into the paint. It should be a close, high-scoring game in Dallas tonight, with LeBron having a very realistic chance of hitting 50 FanDuel points.

Power Forward

Ryan Anderson, New Orleans Pelicans, $5,500 - In the past two games in which Anthony Davis got hurt and then missed a game entirely, Anderson played 37 and 43 minutes for the Pelicans. If Brow misses out tonight, it’s safe to say Anderson will pick up huge minutes in what is also a very nice matchup vs. the Lakers. Even if Davis does end up taking the court, Anderson is unlikely to hurt you. There’s not a lot of risk here for the price, and he could end up paying off in a huge way should Davis indeed miss out.

Kristaps Porzingis, New York Knicks, $6,300 - The way to attack the Celtics is on the interior, and I expect the Knicks to utilize Porzingis early and often in this matchup. Porzingis remains far too cheap for his upside, has played quite a bit better at home this season, and has had success against the Celtics already this season, dropping 38 FanDuel points in just 28 minutes the last time these two teams faced each other. While foul trouble is always a risk with Kristaps, he’s been a bit better lately at staying on the court.

Ian Mahinmi, Indiana Pacers, $5,200 - The top-end center options, for my money, are mostly not worth paying for tonight, so I’ll be saving some cap space by rostering Mahinmi, who should have a very nice game against the Phoenix, who are nothing short of terrible defensively. Expect the very consistent Mahinmi to collect a couple of blocks and clean up on the glass on his way to 25+ FanDuel points.
