I’m here to break down tonight’s seven-game FanDuel NBA slate starting at 7:00 ET. Keep in mind that this column was created earlier in the day, meaning injury information could change the fantasy landscape throughout the afternoon. Obviously you’ll want to keep track of any developments through Rotoworld’s NBA Headlines & Injuries Feed as we move closer to tip-off.
With that, let’s dive into each position while mining for the best value and overall plays in this slate.
Spencer Dinwiddie - Brooklyn (FanDuel Price: $7,000)
Dinwiddie has been playing some pretty good basketball as of late, running the show with D’Angelo Russell out. The Brooklyn point guard usually sees his minutes plateau in the 30-33 range, but he’s an efficient producer who can fill up the stat-sheet in a hurry. Over the past 12 games (with Russell out), Dinwiddie is averaging a solid 34 FPPG. I’m thinking he can score within that range tonight, making him a strong DFS commodity at a somewhat uninspiring point guard position.
J.J. Redick – Philadelphia (FanDuel Price: $5,700)
This Philadelphia-Minnesota game should be high-scoring, competitive, and full of fantasy upside. There’s a good chance Redick will get in on the action, especially if Joel Embiid or Robert Covington (both questionable) miss this game. If we get confirmation that one (or both) will be sidelined, Redick should see more scoring chances within the Philadelphia offense. He’s a fine play regardless, considering Minnesota ranks 27th in defensive efficiency vs shooting guards and 26th in three-point percentage allowed to the position.
Wilson Chandler – Denver (FanDuel Price: $4,400)
The idea of rostering Wilson Chandler was nauseating at first. However, the more I look at things, the more I have come to accept him as a SF2 on FanDuel. Here’s why: 1) His poor performances over the past few weeks have caused his salary to drop lower than we’ve seen in a while. 2) Chandler’s minutes are starting to pick up following an injury in late-November. He saw 37 minutes (33 FP) on Sunday at Indiana. 3) The Nuggets will need him to play reasonable minutes while stepping up his offensive game with Jokic and Millsap still out. 4) You only need around 22 fantasy points for Chandler to meet his value threshold. The prospect of 33+ minutes should lead him there by attrition.
Taj Gibson – Minnesota (FanDuel Price: $5,300)
Choosing between Ben Simmons and Kristaps Porzingis on FanDuel is a tough call. For what it’s worth, I’m leaning towards Simmons (especially if Embiid is out) if the extra $300 doesn’t break your lineup … Looking towards a stable, complimentary PF2 is a much easier proposition. For some reason, the people over at FanDuel refuse to raise the salary on Taj Gibson. Seriously, I have been saying the same thing all season: Taj Gibson is underpriced relative to his role and security of 36+ minutes for the Timberwolves. That holds true again tonight, so go ahead and lock him in with confidence!
Andre Drummond – Detroit (FanDuel Price: $9,200)
Drummond and Towns are both plausible selections through all formats tonight. I’m playing the pricing game between them, where Towns comes at a discount on DraftKings – the opposite holding true on FanDuel. Drummond is $500 cheaper than KAT on FanDuel, which leads him to better “per dollar” value considering a similar overall projection. His opponent, Denver, is shorthanded up front (Jokic and Millsap out), which should free Drummond to have his way on the glass.
