Now onto the FanDuel NFL Must Plays for week 12!

Just a reminder, this column includes only Sunday games (starting at 1 ET), as that’s considered the main slate on FanDuel.

PLATINUM: Build your lineup around these guys

Todd Gurley – RB - Los Angeles Rams (FanDuel Price: $8,500)

In my opinion, Gurley is the top priority of this slate. The Rams’ workhorse running back carries plenty of upside in a high-scoring tilt against a New Orleans defense that ranks 26th in DVOA against the run. Not only that, but Gurley comes with a substantial $900 discount from Le’Veon Bell on FanDuel. Even though the former Georgia Bulldog has posted mediocre fantasy scores in back-to-back weeks, a promising shootout with the Saints should help him right the proverbial ship.

Cam Newton – QB - Carolina (FanDuel Price: $8,000)

This week is somewhat tricky at the quarterback position. Tom Brady, Russell Wilson, and Carson Wentz have great matchups, but the respective salaries are heavy and game flow doesn’t necessarily lend in their favor. Newton checks in with significant savings compared to that top flight. On top of that, he has a strong floor/ceiling combination against a Jets’ defense that ranks 20th in overall DVOA and 22nd against the pass. Newton has been more aggressive running the ball in recent weeks, and you love that added dimension of fantasy upside. Needless to say, this is a winnable matchup for Newton to post another strong DFS score.

GOLD: Next wave to consider in terms of priority

Kareem Hunt – RB - Kansas City (FanDuel Price: $7,700)

This pick comes with somewhat of a caveat: If RB Devonta Freeman of Atlanta is out or limited this week, I’ll likely roll with Tevin Coleman ($6200) in my RB2 spot. If that situation is unclear, Hunt makes for a promising alternative for DFS purposes … First off, the salary has dropped significantly due to Hunt’s inability to find the end-zone. With Kansas City checking in as double-digit home favorites against a Buffalo team that ranks 31st in DVOA against the run, Hunt should see plenty of opportunities to post over 100 total yards with a score or two. While Hunt burned us as a featured pick in this article last week, I’m confident in giving him another chance considering this excellent situation.

Michael Thomas – WR - New Orleans (FanDuel Price: $7,600)

The Rams have been pretty good against the pass overall this season, but I’m still very interested in Michael Thomas for DFS purposes. Serving as the top receiver in one of the best offenses in the league makes Thomas a legitimate fantasy consideration every week. The expected back-and-forth high-scoring nature of this game should help him along, and I’m confident turning to his double-digit targets through all formats.

SILVER: Good options that narrowly rank ahead of similar players

Jarvis Landry – WR – Miami (FanDuel Price: $7,100)

Miami checks in as 16 point underdogs at New England. They are have a tough time running the ball, and game flow will force them to the air anyway. The Patriots rank 31st against the pass this season, and we could see plenty of garbage opportunities for Landry. I’m perfectly content with that situation for my FanDuel lineup, as the fantasy points count all the same regardless of their real-life impact.

Philadelphia Eagles Defense (FanDuel Price: $4,900)

Philadelphia’s defense has been very strong as of late, and now they’ll face a one-dimensional Chicago offense with a rookie quarterback. Checking in as 13 point home favorites makes the Eagles a confident defensive choice for Week 12 … If you need to save an extra $100, the Pittsburgh Steelers ($4800) make for a solid “next-in-line” choice at home vs a reeling Green Bay offense without Aaron Rodgers.

BRONZE: Not 100% necessities, but they mix well into a quality lineup

Mohamed Sanu – WR- Atlanta (FanDuel Price: $5,800)

The Falcons’ passing attack finds themselves in a promising matchup against a Tampa defense that ranks 28th in DVOA through the air. Julio Jones has been middling this season to begin with, and he’s currently nursing an ankle and knee injury. That could open more opportunities for Mohamed Sanu to take advantage of this welcoming draw. He checks in as a solid WR3 to round out your lineup.

Jack Doyle – TE – Indianapolis (FanDuel Price: $5,700)

Doyle and Delanie Walker ($5900) represent two of my favorite “per dollar” tight ends on this slate. I’m ultimately looking towards Doyle against a Tennessee defense that ranks 27th in DVOA against the pass and 26th vs tight ends. Doyle was very quiet last game vs Pittsburgh, but this matchup is much more favorable. Having an extra week to rest an prepare doesn’t hurt either.

PARTICIPATION RIBBONS: Fell just short of a featured spot

Tevin Coleman – RB – Atlanta (FanDuel Price: $6,200)

I mentioned Coleman in Kareem Hunt’s write-up earlier, outlining that he would become a strong RB2 through all formats if granted another start. We’ll keep an eye on Devonta Freeman’s injury situation while moving closer to kickoff. I’m thinking Freeman plays, but Coleman will start and see majority of the carries. It would obviously be nice to have some confirmation before counting on him in your FanDuel lineups. If that’s the case, Coleman makes for a very nice value commodity in an ideal matchup vs Tampa.

Devin Funchess – WR – Carolina (FanDuel Price: $7,300)

As outlined earlier in this article, I really like Cam Newton this week. That affection carries to his undisputed top receiver, Devin Funchess. The 6’4” 225 lb target got back on track with a sweet 5-92-2 (23.7 FP) line vs Miami last Monday. There’s more room for upside against a Jets’ defense that ranks 22nd in DVOA vs the pass.

Christian McCaffrey – RB – Carolina (FanDuel Price: $6,700)

Even though McCaffrey has been a solid DFS asset in recent weeks, he may be somewhat underrated on Sunday. I’m assuming more attention will be giving to Gurley, Hunt, Coleman, and the Saints backfield. The Jets’ have been decent against the run this season (3rd in DVOA), but McCaffrey generates most of his fantasy production through the air. For that reason, he can be confidently rostered alongside Cam Newton as a sneaky-good stack.

Cooper Kupp – WR – Los Angeles Rams (FanDuel Price: $5,400)

I listed Mohamed Sanu as a nice WR3 option, but Cooper Kupp profiles similarly for an even cheaper salary. Having said that, if you are in a salary cap pinch, I don’t mind dipping down to Kupp for a $400 discount. This Saints-Rams matchup looks to be a high-scoring affair, and Kupp could see more targets with Robert Woods out.

The Kicker Conundrum

I’m looking towards Ryan Succop ($4800), Chris Boswell ($4800), and Adam Vinatieri ($4700) as the best “per dollar” plays of this position, listed in order of preference. Of course, Greg Zuerlein ($5200) is firmly in DFS consideration if you have the available salary to make him work. I wouldn’t stretch to roster him, but one of the highest yielding fantasy kickers playing for a top projected scoring team is something to contemplate.
