Each day I will be providing my recommended player picks for your FanDuel daily fantasy hockey lineups. The goal is to help you build the optimal cash game (50/50s/double-ups/head-to-head) lineup.
The National Hockey League presents us with three Friday night contests as we kick off the weekend. The Anaheim Ducks and Detroit Red Wings are the biggest favorites tonight and we have two teams (Winnipeg Jets and the Arizona Coyotes) playing on consecutive nights.
Make sure to check the RotoGrinders NHL Starting Goalies Page to confirm that the goalies listed below are starting prior to game time.
John Gibson, Anaheim Ducks, $8,400 - The Anaheim Ducks are the biggest favorite on the board tonight and they are one of the National Hockey League’s best defensive teams, which makes John Gibson my top option in goal this evening. Gibson is quickly becoming one of the best young goalies in the game and he should have a strong performance tonight against an Arizona Coyotes squad that lacks scoring punch and is playing on consecutive nights. Gibson may not see a ton of shots, but he is a lock for the win and he has shutout upside.
Other Option: Petr Mrazek (DET)
Alex Galchenyuk, Montréal Canadiens, $6,100 – The Columbus Blue Jackets are an average team at best, with below average puck skills. The Blue Jackets are not a strong defensive team either. Columbus has allowed the second-most shots per game this season, and they are currently ranked 23rd overall in Corsi. After a 3-0 win over the Vancouver Canucks on Wednesday night, the Montréal Canadiens remain as the only team without a regulation loss in the 2016-17 season. The Canadiens own the best record in the National Hockey League (9-0-1), thanks in large part to Alex Galchenyuk and their number one line. Look for Galchenyuk and company to have another productive game in Columbus tonight.
Corey Perry, Anaheim Ducks, $6,700 – The Arizona Coyotes remain the league leaders in shots allowed (35.1) and goals against per game (3.70). The Desert Dogs also struggle with puck possession (ranked 25th in Corsi), which has led to them allowing the third-most scoring chances against in hockey. As the Anaheim Ducks’ best scoring threat, Perry has hat trick upside in this plus matchup on home ice. At just $6,700, Perry is a must play for me tonight in cash on this short slate.
Cam Fowler, Anaheim Ducks, $4,400 - The Arizona Coyotes are not just a terrible defensive team, they also own one of the National Hockey League’s worst penalty kills. As the Ducks’ power play quarterback, Cam Fowler averages over 24 minutes of ice time per game. Fowler is not only very reasonably priced, he also has multi-point upside in this favorable matchup.
