Each day I will be providing my recommended player picks for your FanDuel daily fantasy hockey lineups. The goal is to help you build the optimal cash game (50/50s/double-ups/head-to-head) lineup.
After a very exciting Thursday night of National Hockey League action, we keep it rolling tonight with a solid five-game slate. The Washington Capitals, Pittsburgh Penguins and the Chicago Blackhawks are your biggest favorites this evening, and none of the 10 teams hitting the ice are playing on consecutive nights.
Make sure to check the RotoGrinders NHL Starting Goalies Page to confirm that the goalies listed below are starting prior to game time.
Braden Holtby, Washington Capitals, $9,700 - The Washington Capitals are a huge home favorite tonight, which means we should see elite goaltender Braden Holtby cruise to an easy victory. The Detroit Red Wings have been one of the National Hockey League’s lowest scoring teams away from home, averaging a measly 1.86 goals per game. Holtby won’t come cheap, be he is the most talented netminder on the slate and he is a lock for the all important win.
Sidney Crosby, Pittsburgh Penguins, $8,800 - He is the best player in the world and he is my top option across the board tonight. Sid the Kid has 13 points in 10 games this season, including five multi-point performances. The New York Islanders have struggled with their defensive game recently (allowing the fifth-most shots and the second-most goals against per game this month), and I think we see Crosby take advantage of that tonight with another multi-point effort.
Patrick Kane, Chicago Blackhawks, $8,400 – Despite winning their last two games and allowing just one goal against, the Calgary Flames remain one of the National Hockey League’s worst defensive teams. The Flames sit in the bottom-third of the league in just about every defensive category and they are going to have their hands full this evening with Patrick Kane and company in town. Kane is as consistent as they come and I think we see him hit the score sheet multiple times tonight in this favorable matchup.
T.J. Oshie, Washington Capitals, $6,700 - Oshie had a monster game on Wednesday night in the Washington Capitals' 7-1 drubbing over the reigning Stanley Cup Champions, registering two goals and two assists. The Detroit Red Wings are a poor possession team and they have really struggled away from the Joe Louis Arena in 2016-17. I think we see the Capitals' second line dominate when on the ice tonight, with Oshie leading the charge.
Other Top Play: Alexander Ovechkin (WSH)
Duncan Keith, Chicago Blackhawks, $5,700 – We have a lot of great options on the blue line tonight, but Duncan Keith stands out with his moderate salary and prime matchup. The Calgary Flames have taken more minor penalties than other team in the National Hockey League this year, which is not a good thing, especially when you have trouble killing them off (22nd ranked penalty kill). Look for Keith and the Chicago Blackhawks' top power play unit to take advantage of the Flames' undisciplined play and exploit their weak penalty kill.
Top Play: Kris Letang (PIT)
