Each day I will be providing my recommended player picks for your FanDuel daily fantasy hockey lineups. The goal is to help you build the optimal cash game (50/50s/double-ups/head-to-head) lineup.
We kick off the weekend with a solid five game schedule of National Hockey League action. The Pittsburgh Penguins and the Carolina Hurricanes are the biggest favorites, and the Edmonton Oilers are the only team playing on the tail end of a back-to-back.
Make sure to check the RotoGrinders NHL Starting Goalies Page to confirm that the goalies listed below are starting prior to game time.
Matt Murray, Pittsburgh Penguins, $9,300 - It is another tough night for picking a cash game goalie, but Matt Murray looks like the best option. Not only are the Pittsburgh Penguins one of the biggest favorites, Murray should also see plenty of rubber in this game. A win and 30-plus saves seem like a lock, giving Murray the edge in net tonight.
Sidney Crosby, Pittsburgh Penguins, $9,000 - If you are paying up for anyone tonight, that player should be Sidney Crosby. The Penguins captain has been the best player in the game since returning from injury, sitting second overall in league scoring. Every time we get to roster Sid on home ice it is a plus matchup, and I think we see another big game from him tonight.
Top Mid-Tier Plays: Henrik Zetterberg (DET)
Jeff Skinner, Carolina Hurricanes, $6,600 - The Edmonton Oilers are an average defensive team that has allowed the third-most scoring chances against this season, making matters worse, they are also playing in consecutive road games. Meanwhile, the Carolina Hurricanes are home and rested and I think we see them generate plenty of scoring opportunities in this game. Jeff Skinner is the Hurricanes’ top sniper and I think we see a productive game from him. With Skinner’s high shot totals and multi-goal upside, he is certainly in play for cash games this evening.
Taylor Hall, New Jersey Devils, $6,900 - Taylor Hall is having a solid season for the New Jersey Devils and he has been hot of late with five points in his last three contests, including two multi-point performances. Hall’s tendencies to shoot the puck and score goals make him an excellent cash game option versus an overrated Calgary Flames team tonight. Look for Hall to pay off his moderate salary this evening on home ice.
Cam Fowler, Anaheim Ducks, $5,300 - Cam Fowler is having another good season for the Anaheim Ducks and he has found his way onto the score sheet quite frequently with eight points in his last six contests. Fowler plays a ton of minutes (almost 25 minutes per game) at both even strength and on the Ducks’ number one power play unit, giving him ample opportunity to produce. The floor is high for Fowler thanks to his lofty minutes and ability to hit the score sheet, making him a solid cash game play at a reasonable price tag.
Top Play: Kris Letang (PIT)
