Happy Thanksgiving Day (Canada) and Happy Columbus Day (America).
It is a short slate on this holiday Monday, as we only have five games on tap throughout the day and into the evening. That being said, we can still have a lot of fun in both cash game and GPPs with 10 teams in action. The Anaheim Ducks are the only clear team to target, but we should see plenty of goals in games in both New York and Philadelphia as well. The Columbus Blue Jackets are due for a breakout game and the Sabres seem to be ripe for the picking.
Make sure to check the RotoGrinders NHL Starting Goalies Page to confirm that the goalies listed below are starting prior to game time.
Frederik Andersen, Anaheim Ducks, $8,700 – Despite losing the season opener, Andersen was outstanding in goal for the Ducks, turning aside 42 of the 44 shots he faced. The 26-year-old Denmark native was terrific on home ice last season and he is my top play in net this evening. The Anaheim Ducks are the biggest favorites on the night and I expect them dominate this game from puck drop.
John Tavares, New York Islanders, $8,500 - Any time John Tavares is at home facing against an average team, he will be a staple in my cash game lineup. The Winnipeg Jets have looked good so far, but they are in the middle of a four-game road trip and this will be game number three in five days. At some point in this game I expect the Jets to get tired. Look for a breakout game from Tavares in this one.
Corey Perry, Anaheim Ducks, $8,600 – Corey Perry and Ryan Getzlaf have started the season on separate lines, but after getting blanked in their season opener, I think they get reunited tonight. Perry is one of the top power forwards in the NHL and he is at his best when playing at the Honda Center. Regardless of who Perry is playing with, I expect him to light the lamp at least once in this game.
We have lots of value on the wing, so let’s talk about a few of my favorite options. The Columbus Blue Jackets should have a productive night in Buffalo and Brendan Saad is too cheap to ignore. Saad and his linemates (Ryan Johansen and Nick Foligno) looked terrific together in the pre-season and I think they bust out against the Sabres. I also love both Ryan Strome and Anders Lee at home against the Winnipeg Jets; not only are the playing on the New York Islanders' top line with John Tavares, but they are also skating on the top power-play unit. Michael Raffl and the Philadelphia Flyers are in a nice spot tonight at home to the Florida Panthers. Raffl is back on the Flyers’ top line alongside studs Claude Giroux and Jakub Voracek and he is also skating on Philadelphia’s number one power-play unit. At $4,600, you can’t go wrong.
Sami Vatanen ($5,000) and Cam Fowler ($4,300), Anaheim Ducks - There are only five games on the schedule and the Ducks are the only team I trust to dominate their game. Both Vatanen and Fowler see a ton of ice time at regular strength and they share top power-play duties. Anaheim should score three to four goals in this game and I expect both defensemen to get involved.
