We kick off the week with six solid games of National Hockey League action. The Anaheim Ducks, St. Louis Blues and Nashville Predators are tonight’s biggest favorites, while none of the 12 teams are playing on consecutive nights.
Make sure to check the RotoGrinders NHL Starting Goalies Page to confirm that the goalies listed below are starting prior to game time.
John Gibson, Anaheim Ducks, $8,100 - The New Jersey Devils have been one of the worst offensive teams in hockey all year and that was with Michael Cammalleri and Lee Stempniak in this lineup, which will not be the case tonight. With the Devils not offering much scoring punch, Gibson is not only a lock for the win, but he is also our best chance at a shutout.
John Tavares, New York Islanders, $8,800 – Tavares has scored in three consecutive games and he has been recently reunited with sniper Kyle Okposo, which should only help him pile up the assists moving forward. Led by their captain, the Islanders have been playing great hockey these days (7-2-1 in their past 10 games) and they are one of the best offensives on home ice (ranked fourth overall in goals per game at home). Look for Tavares to stay hot this evening.
Filip Forsberg, Nashville Predators, $8,800 – The Nashville Predators (with Forsberg leading their offense) have been on an incredible run lately and they are now fighting for home ice advantage in the first round of the playoffs. Every time we think the Edmonton Oilers have turned the corner, they go out and lay an egg like they did against the Arizona Coyotes on Saturday night. At the end of the day, this is still a bad defensive club. If Cam Talbot is not standing on his head, the Oilers give up goals, and lots of them. Forsberg has multi-point upside in this prime matchup.
Vladimir Tarasenko, St. Louis Blues, $8,100 – After a hot start, Tarasenko cooled down for a while, but he has started to heat up once again. In his last two games, the former first round pick has racked up three goals, five points and eight shots on net. The Calgary Flames have had a real tough year and things are not going to improve anytime soon. The Flames have struggled defensively all season long and their goaltending has been a complete disaster. As a result, Calgary has allowed more goals against per game than anyone else in hockey, and they own the National Hockey League’s worst penalty kill. Tarasenko has hat trick upside tonight.
Corey Perry, Anaheim Ducks, $6,900 – The Anaheim Ducks went on quite a run recently and they are now only two points behind the Los Angeles Kings for first place in the Pacific Division. Perry and the Ducks have since cooled off though, losing three straight. However, I expect them to bounce back in a big way tonight. The New Jersey Devils are the second worst possession team in hockey and Keith Kinkaid has really struggled trying to fill Cory Schneider’s shoes. Even when we count the Devils last two wins, this is still a team that has lost eight of their past 12 games, giving up an incredible 41 goals along the way (3.42 goals against per game). Perry is simply too cheap to ignore in games cash games tonight considering the plus matchup on home ice.
Kevin Shattenkirk, St. Louis Blues, $4,700 – Shattenkirk is one of the game’s best offensive defensemen and he is coming off a monster performance (2 G, 8 SOG) against the Dallas Stars on Saturday night. At his moderate price, in this plus matchup, Shattenkirk is a must play in your cash games tonight.
