Welcome to today’s edition of the Daily Plays. I hope you all had a good New Year’s celebration, and let’s start the first Sunday of the New Year off right! There is a four-game slate tonight, but there is a lot to pick from for you FanDuel contests. Be sure to check the Starting Goalies and Lines Page to confirm your player selections are starting.
Corey Crawford – $9,500 Crawford gets a home matchup against the Senators. Ottawa is the second-worst possession team in the NHL and they give up the fifth most high-danger chances. This is a good sign for Crawford, who should see ample support, and he has been playing great hockey this year, putting him in a great position for the win.
John Gibson – $8,400 The Ducks have struggled this year, but facing a Winnipeg team on a west coast trip on a back-to-back could be a good option for Gibson, who has had a nice year. Gibson has a .930 save percentage and the Jets are an inconsistent team. Factoring in the price, I expect Gibson to be fairly popular as well.
Anders Lee - $5,900 – Lee is skating with Tavares and Bailey and this line has been one of the best in hockey in the past two years. The Islanders are on a back-to-back against a tough Dallas team, but the pace of this game should be absolutely nuts, as the two fastest paced teams in the NHL face off. Lee and his linemates attempted over 70 Corsi attempts per 60 last year during a one-month span together, and we can expect well over that in a game this fast.
Patrick Sharp - $7,700 – For the same reason I like Lee, I love Sharp. This is a fast-paced game and there will be no defense played. Obviously, Tavares, Seguin and Benn are elite plays, but Sharp is much cheaper (like Lee) and is playing top line and top pp minutes and has all the talent to play that role, and is not just a fill in. Lock him in with confidence.
Patrick Kane - $9,400 – Kane faces Ottawa, and he and his linemate, Artemi Panarin, will be the chalk combo for good reason. They both are so talented and dominate possession. Ottawa is second-to-last in the NHL in Corsi %, and giving a line like this second line change at home and a good matchup with possession can only lead to good things.
Corey Perry - $7,700 – Perry has struggled to his standards this year, but he is playing much better hockey of late, and he is too talented to continue to struggle. Facing a Jets team on the second night of a back-to-back can only lead to many chances, and a lot of power-play opportunities as the Jets always take penalties.
Nick Leddy – $4,700 – Leddy is a great defenseman with four points in as many games. He faces a Dallas team that plays extremely fast, and his speed should be in full display in this one. He gets PP time and should see many chances, as he often skates with Tavares at the same time, and Dallas plays the highest Corsi and high danger chance pace, which should give him a chance to get more shots.
Brent Seabrook - $5,800 – As long as Seabrook is on the top PP, I will always target him. He likes to shoot the puck, and he plays a ton of ES time, against the second-worst possession team in hockey, with a bad ratio of high-danger chances allowed.
Best of luck in your games today!
