__________

After a quiet evening of hockey last night, the NHL presents us with an exciting nine-game slate tonight. Other than the St. Louis Blues, there are not a lot of heavy favorites tonight, making things a little more difficult in your cash games and completely wide open in your GPPs.

Editor's Note: Rotoworld's partner FanDuel is hosting a $25,000 Fantasy Hockey league for Thursday night's NHL games. It's just $2 to join and first prize is $2,000. Starts Thursday at 7pm ET. Here's the FanDuel link.

GOALTENDERS

Make sure to check the RotoGrinders Starting Goalies Page to confirm that the goalies listed below are starting prior to game time.

Brian Elliott, St. Louis Blues, $9,300 – Elliott was outstanding in the Blues’ come from behind win over Tampa Bay on Tuesday night and has now won his last three starts. The Sabres have lost 14 of their last 15 games and have been outscored 68-24 during that stretch. The Blues on the other hand are 8-1 in their last 9 meetings in Buffalo and 15-2 overall in their last 17 meetings. The Blues as a team are on fire right now, winning six straight games and only allowing 11 goals in the process. Elliott is a lock for a win tonight and your best shot at a shutout.

Editor’s Note – If Jake Allen gets the start tonight, play him with confidence and enjoy the discounted salary.

Other Goalies To Target (Cash Games) – Pekka Rinne, Ryan Miller

Other Goalies To Target (Tournaments) – Steve Mason, Mike Smith, Braden Holtby

CENTERS

John Tavares, New York Islanders, $8,400 – Tavares has points in five of his last six games and he has not been affected by his rotating wingers since the loss of Kyle Okposo. The Islanders have owned Philadelphia this season, firing 46 shots at the Flyers in their first meeting and another 40 in the second meeting with seven goals scored. New York can score with the best teams in the league and I expect that to continue tonight in Philadelphia.

David Backes, St. Louis Blues, $7,900 – Backes has now gone pointless in consecutive games after going nine straight contests with at least one point. Backes and his linemates Alexander Steen and T.J. Oshie are still one of the most consistent and explosive lines in all of hockey and they should easily find their way back onto the scoresheet tonight in Buffalo.

Other Centers To Target (Cash Games) – Claude Giroux, Tyler Seguin, Nicklas Backstrom

Other Centers To Target (Tournaments) – Paul Stastny, Tyler Johnson, Antoine Vermette

Wingers

Jakub Voracek, Philadelphia Flyers, $8,200 - Voracek has points in five of his last six games and leads the NHL in both assists with 41 and total points with 58. The Islanders have now lost three straight games and have allowed 13 goals along the way. Look for Voracek to take advantage of a struggling Islanders squad and their 30th ranked penalty kill.

Vladimir Tarasenko, St. Louis Blues, $7,400 – This 23-year-old Russian phenom has scored in back-to-back games and continues to put up very impressive numbers for the Blues this season (26 G, 51 PTS, +25, 175 SOG, 50 GP). Despite their winning ways of late (insert sarcasm), the Sabres are still awful and a team we should be picking on each and every time they play. Buffalo has allowed more shots and goals per game than any other team in the NHL. Having exposure to both of the Blues’ top two lines is a recipe for success.

Other Wingers To Target (Cash Games) – Alexander Steen, Alexander Ovechkin, Jamie Benn, Filip Forsberg

Other Wingers To Target (Tournaments) – Anders Lee, Bobby Ryan, Colin Wilson, Ryan Callahan

DEFENSE

Alex Pietrangelo, St. Louis Blues, $5,000 – With the injury to Kevin Shattenkirk, Alex Pietrangelo is now the Blues’ top offensive defensemen and powerplay quarterback. Fear not St. Louis fans, as Pietrangelo is one of the best all around defensemen in hockey and the Blues are unlikely to skip a beat offensively. Pietrangelo’s fantasy upside increases dramatically with this turn of events and he could not be in a better spot to produce tonight.

Keith Yandle, Arizona Coyotes, $4,300 - Yandle has back to back multi-point performances and is now riding a four-game point streak. Yandle logs over 24 minutes of ice time per game and is the Coyotes’ top offensive threat from the point. The Hurricanes have lost three games in a row and have allowed 12 goals along the way. Yandle is in a great to spot to have yet another multi-point effort and is one of the top options on defense tonight in any format.

Other Defensemen To Target (Cash Games) – Shea Weber, Oliver Ekman-Larsson, Victor Hedman

Other Defensemen To Target (Tournaments) – Mike Green, John Klingberg, Tyson Barrie
