Each day I will be providing my recommended player picks for your FanDuel daily fantasy hockey lineups. The goal is to help you build the optimal cash game (50/50s/double-ups/head-to-head) lineup.
We have another great Thursday night of National Hockey League action ahead of us with 10 games on tap. The Tampa Bay Lightning, Los Angeles Kings and the Boston Bruins are tonight’s biggest favorites, and we have two teams (Boston Bruins and the Carolina Hurricanes) playing on the tail end of a back-to-back.
Make sure to check the RotoGrinders NHL Starting Goalies Page to confirm that the goalies listed below are starting prior to game time.
Carey Price, Montréal Canadiens, $10,200 - He is certainly not cheap, but Carey Price is the top dog in goal tonight. Price has been incredible all season long for Les Canadiens (1.82 GAA, .942 SV%), and his numbers get even better at the Bell Centre (1.69 GAA, .947 SV%). The New Jersey Devils have been playing well of late, but this is not an offense to fear. The Devils are a below average team in shots and goals against per game this year. Look for Price to come away with the win tonight, while making at least 25 saves in the process, and it would not surprise me if he posted his third shutout of the season.
Top Mid-Tier Play: Peter Budaij (LAK)
Top Value Play: Anton Khudobin (BOS)
Connor McDavid, Edmonton Oilers, $8,600 - Like the energizer bunny, Connor McDavid just keeps going. McDavid had another multi-point performance on Tuesday night in Buffalo, and he continues to lead the National Hockey League in scoring with 36 points in 28 games played. The Philadelphia Flyers are far from a lock down defensive club (allowing the sixth-most scoring chances and fourth-most goals against per game) and I expect McDavid to see a ton of scoring chances in this contest. Look for the Edmonton Oilers young phenom to register yet another multi-point game.
David Krejci, Boston Bruins, $5,900 - The Colorado Avalanche are an absolute defensive mess right now, losing six straight games, while allowing 24 goals against, and that puts the Boston Bruins offense in play tonight. With Patrice Bergeron and the Bruins’ top line concentrating on defense in an attempt to shut down Nathan MacKinnon, David Krejci and the Bruins second line will be on the ice against the Avs’ weaker lines, giving them multiple opportunities to hit the score sheet in this one.
Top Value Play: Vladislav Namestnikov (TB)
Nikita Kucherov, Tampa Bay Lightning, $7,800 – Despite all the injuries to the Tampa Bay Lightning’s offense, Kucherov just keep rolling, sitting second overall in the National Hockey League scoring race. The Vancouver Canucks have been awful on the road this season, posting a 3-8-1 record. Not only is their road record terrible, but their defensive statistics away from home are downright ugly. Look for Kucherov to pay off his salary once again tonight, as he stays within striking distance of Connor McDavid.
Patrick Eaves, Dallas Stars, $5,300 - The Nashville Predators have not been a very sound defensive team in 2016-17, especially on the road, where the Predators have allowed over 32 shots per game (ninth-most in the NHL), and the fourth-most goals against per game (3.50). Nashville has also had a difficult time while shorthanded this season, ranking 26th overall on the penalty kill. Eaves has been extremely productive this season playing alongside superstar Tyler Seguin at both even strength and on the Dallas Stars’ number one power play unit, and he makes a great inexpensive cash game option again this evening.
Top Value Plays: Brayden Point (TB)
Oliver Ekman-Larsson, Arizona Coyotes, $5,800 - Oliver Ekman-Larsson should be on your radar tonight as he faces off against a Calgary Flames team that leads the National Hockey League in minor penalties. The Desert Dogs blueliner plays over 24 minutes per game and he rarely leaves the ice on the power play. In a plus matchup on home ice, OEL has multi-point upside with the man advantage alone tonight.
