Each day I will be providing my recommended player picks for your FanDuel daily fantasy hockey lineups. The goal is to help you build the optimal cash game (50/50s/double-ups/head-to-head) lineup.

__________

We have a rather quiet night in the National Hockey League for a Thursday, with just six games on the schedule. The Nashville Predators and Chicago Blackhawks are massive favorites tonight and this is where you should focus when building your cash game lineup. Despite having 12 teams in action, the Boston Bruins are only team playing on the tail end of a back-to-back.

GOALTENDERS

Make sure to check the RotoGrinders NHL Starting Goalies Page to confirm that the goalies listed below are starting prior to game time.

Pekka Rinne, Nashville Predators, $8,700 - It was a tough choice between Corey Crawford and Pekka Rinne tonight, but with the Colorado Avalanche playing so badly on the road (9-19-1) and their inability to score (dead-last in goals per game on the road, averaging a pathetic 1.79 goals per contest), Rinne became the obvious choice. After a superb month of January (2.07 GAA, .933 SV%), Rinne has struggled in February (3.09 GAA, .891 SV%), but this is a tremendous spot for him to bounce back. The Predators’ goaltender has been great throughout his career at the Bridgestone Arena, and I think we see a strong performance from him tonight. Facing the National Hockey League’s ineptest offense, Rinne is also your best shot at a shutout this evening.

Other Top Plays: Corey Crawford (CHI), Ben Bishop (TB), Carey Price (MTL)

CENTERS

Tyler Johnson, Tampa Bay Lightning, $5,800 – Reunited and it feels so good…yes the Triplets have been reunited and they looked outstanding on Tuesday night, combining for three goals and eight points in their 4-1 win over the Edmonton Oilers. The Tampa Bay Lightning have struggled to score goals this season, but with head coach Jon Cooper loading up their top line, it has certainly ignited their offense. Johnson’s multi-point game on Tuesday night was his second multi-point effort in his last three contests, and I think we continue to see him pile up the points as long as this fearsome threesome stays intact.

Top Plays: Auston Matthews (TOR), Jonathan Toews (CHI)

Other Mid-Tier Plays: Ryan Johansen (NSH), Artem Anisimov (CHI)

Top Value Plays: Calle Jarnkrok (NSH), Brayden Point (TB)

WINGERS

Viktor Arvidsson, Nashville Predators, $5,600 – The Colorado Avalanche are the National Hockey League’s worst team, and we must target their opposition every time they are in action. Thanks to a terrible possession game, the Avalanche have allowed the fourth-most shots against per game (32.9) and they have surrendered a league leading 3.29 goals against per game. Viktor Arvidsson is enjoying a breakout season and he should continue to produce while skating on the Nashville Predators’ top line and number one power play unit. In this plus matchup on home ice, Arvidsson should excel.

Patrick Kane, Chicago Blackhawks, $8,200 – The Arizona Coyotes are fine when playing on home ice, but they are an absolute mess on the road, sporting an 8-16-4 record. On the season, the Coyotes have surrendered a league high 444 scoring chances, to go along with the second-most goals against per game (3.46) on the road. Oh, I’m not done, the Desert Dogs are also one of the most undisciplined teams in hockey (fifth-most penalty minutes per game), and their 28th ranked penalty kill ensures that Kane and the Blackhawks will have success tonight. Look for Kane to hit the score sheet multiple times tonight in this extremely favorable matchup at the United Center.

Other Top Plays: Nikita Kucherov (TB), Filip Forsberg (NSH)

Other Mid-Tier Plays: Artemi Panarin (CHI), James Neal (NSH)

Top Value Plays: Colin Wilson (NSH), Josh Leivo (TOR), Richard Panik & Nick Schmaltz (CHI)

DEFENSE

Roman Josi, Nashville, Predators, $6,100 - Josi simply does it all for the Nashville Predators. The 26-year-old rearguard blocks shots with regularity, takes plenty of shots on goal, and consistently finds his way onto the score sheet. With the defensively challenged Colorado Avalanche in town, Josi easily becomes one of the best blue line options. However, if we also consider that the Avs are one of the National Hockey League’s most penalized teams (sixth-most penalty minutes per game) and they own one of the league’s worst penalty kills (24th ranked PK), Josi becomes even more appealing.

Other Top Plays: Duncan Keith (CHI), P.K. Subban (NSH), Victor Hedman (TB)

Top Value Plays: Jake Gardiner (TOR), Brent Seabrook (CHI)
