Happy Tuesday everyone! After a fairly quiet Monday (four games), we have an exciting nine-game slate tonight in the NHL. Make sure you head over to FanDuel and get into the action!
Editor's Note: Rotoworld's partner FanDuel is hosting a one-day $8,000 Fantasy Hockey league for Tuesday's NHL games. It's $10 to join and first prize is $800. Starts Tuesday at 7pm ET. Here's the FanDuel link.
Jonathan Quick ($9,300) – The Los Angeles Kings are the biggest favorite of the night, and for good reason. The Oilers are not only struggling offensively this season, but could also be without two of their top players tonight (Nugent-Hopkins and Eberle). The Kings are an elite defensive squad and Quick is one of the top goalies in the NHL. Quick is easily my top play in net this evening.
Pekka Rinne ($7,700) – Rinne (1.50 GAA, .921 SV%) and the Predators (2-0) are off to a good start, and I think they continue to roll tonight at home versus Calgary. Similarly to the Kings, Nashville is also a big favorite and a very good defensive team. Rinne has looked great in his first two starts, and you have to love his value tonight against a weak Flames team.
Anze Kopitar ($8,000) – Kopitar is the Kings’ offensive leader and plays with sniper Marian Gaborik at both even strength and on the power play. Kopitar is off to a slow start offensively, but a matchup versus the pitiful Oilers (10 goals against in two games) should get him back on track tonight.
Nicklas Backstrom ($6,800) – Backstrom is one of the premier playmakers in all of hockey. He finished third in the league in assists last season and has the luxury of centering superstar Alexander Ovechkin. The Sharks are not the same team on the road and are far from a defensive juggernaut. I expect goals to be scored in this game tonight, and Backstrom will be heavily involved.
Jiri Tlusty ($5,200) – Tlusty is coming off a monster game Saturday versus the Islanders, scoring a hat trick. Tlusty is seeing a lot of ice time and is playing on both the Canes’ top line, and #1 power play unit. Look for another big game from Tlusty tonight against the dreadful Sabres.
Matt Beleskey ($5,000) – With the injury to Patrick Maroon, Beleskey is now playing on the Ducks’ top line with Ryan Getzlaf and Corey Perry. Besleskey has scored in back to back games and makes a tremendous value play on FanDuel tonight.
Corey Perry ($9,700) – Perry was my top play yesterday and he did not disappoint, registering his fourth goal of the season, along with four SOG and two PIM. The Flyers have allowed a whopping 12 goals in their first three games, and so I think we can expect a similar effort from Perry again tonight.
Cam Atkinson ($5,500) – Atkinson had a two-goal performance in the Jackets’ last game versus the Rangers and now has three goals in three games this season. Atkinson is on the Blue Jackets’ top power play line and is now seeing top line duties alongside star Ryan Johansen.
Atkinson is a great young player who will be highly underowned tonight, and I think he continues to stay hot versus a defensively weak Stars team.
Drew Doughty ($5,600) – Doughty had a big night on Saturday versus the Winnipeg Jets (2 A, + 2, 2 PIM, 4 SOG), and is in a great spot tonight against a weak Oilers team. Doughty is a complete stud in every aspect of the game and contributes across the board offensively. Doughty is expensive, but will be worth every penny in this plus matchup tonight.
Roman Josi ($5,400) – Josi is not a household name but he is a star in the making. Josi had a great game Saturday (1 G, + 4, 2 SOG) and should find success again tonight versus an inept Flames group. Josi is paired with Shea Weber at both even strength and on the Preds’ top power play unit. He sees a ton of ice time and gives you exposure to Weber without paying the price required.
