Each day I will be providing my recommended player picks for your FanDuel daily fantasy hockey lineups. The goal is to help you build the optimal cash game (50/50s/double-ups/head-to-head) lineup.
It’s another big Tuesday night in the National Hockey League with 11 exciting games on tap. The Pittsburgh Penguins, Washington Capitals and Nashville Predators are your biggest favorites, and we have three teams (St. Louis Blues, Buffalo Sabres and the Toronto Maple Leafs) playing on consecutive nights.
Make sure to check the RotoGrinders NHL Starting Goalies Page to confirm that the goalies listed below are starting prior to game time.
Matt Murray, Pittsburgh Penguins, $9,200 - There is a lot to like with Matt Murray tonight. Not only should he cruise to an easy victory, but he should also see plenty of rubber along the way. The Calgary Flames average almost 30 shots per game, but have trouble scoring goals away from home, ranking 27th overall (2.11 goals per game). The Pittsburgh Penguins are among the league leaders in shots against per game, allowing over 32 shots against per contest. This means Murray should make 30-plus saves en route to his 20th win of the season tonight.
Sidney Crosby, Pittsburgh Penguins, $8,900 - If you are paying up for any player tonight, that player should be Sidney Crosby. The Pittsburgh Penguins’ captain remains the best fantasy player in the game, thanks to his high floor and even higher ceiling. Crosby has also been a monster on home ice this year, producing 13 goals and 28 points in 23 home contests. Look for another multi-point performance from number 87 tonight in this plus matchup against Calgary on home ice.
Top Value Play: Nick Bonino (PIT)
Patrick Eaves, Dallas Stars, $5,700 - The Toronto Maple Leafs are not only struggling to keep the puck out of their net these days (22 goals against in their last four games), they are also playing on the tail end of a back-to-back, and I expect the Dallas Stars to take advantage of that tonight. Playing on the Stars’ top line and number one power play unit, Patrick Eaves continues to produce, and at just $5,700 he is once again one of the top value plays on the wing.
Mitchell Marner, Toronto Maple Leafs, $6,800 - The Dallas Stars are a defensive disaster as we all know, and despite the Maple Leafs playing in back-to-back games their offense remains in play tonight. With Toronto’s deep offense it can be difficult to pinpoint where the scoring will come from. With that being said, Mitchell Marner has been the Maple Leafs’ most consistent scorer all year long and he leads all NHL rookies in points. Not only that, Marner is hot with three goals and six points in his last four games, and I expect him to find the score sheet once again tonight against this defensively challenged Dallas Stars team.
Mike Hoffman, Ottawa Senators, $6,800 - Like the Toronto Maple Leafs, the St. Louis Blues have also struggled mightily in their own end recently and they will also be playing on consecutive nights, which puts Mike Hoffman and the Ottawa Senators’ offense in a great spot to produce tonight. Hoffman continues to raise his fantasy game by consistently generating plenty of shots and scoring goals. The Senators’ sniper remains reasonably priced and makes a great addition to your cash game lineup this evening.
Kris Letang, Pittsburgh Penguins, $7,100 - He is quite pricey, but Kris Letang is tonight’s top offensive option on the blue line. The Pittsburgh Penguins have a very favorable matchup at the PPG Paints Arena tonight and I expect their offense to be firing on all cylinders. This game has multi-point night written all over for one of the league’s best offensive defenseman.
Other Top Plays: Brent Burns (SJ), Erik Karlson (OTT)
