After a rare quiet Tuesday night, the NHL schedule explodes this evening with 13 games on tap. The Washington Capitals, New York Islanders and the Nashville Predators are the biggest favorites on the board, and the Ottawa Senators and Anaheim Ducks are the only teams playing on consecutive nights.
Make sure to check the RotoGrinders NHL Starting Goalies Page to confirm that the goalies listed below are starting prior to game time.
Braden Holtby, Washington Capitals, $10,000 - The Washington Capitals are one of the biggest favorites tonight, which means Braden Holtby is an excellent choice in net for your cash games. Holtby is coming off an outstanding performance over the Edmonton Oilers, stopping all 33 shots in a 1-0 shutout win Monday night. The 26-year-old goalie has been sensational on home ice this season (1.71 GAA, .937 SV%) and he should be in for another strong performance tonight.
Nicklas Backstrom, Washington Capitals, $6,200 - The Winnipeg Jets find themselves in quite a funk these days. The Jets have now lost seven of their past nine contests and they have allowed the most goals against per game (3.64) in the month of November. Backstrom has multi-point upside in this matchup and he is a cheap way to get exposure to the game’s best sniper (Alexander Ovechkin).
Matt Duchene, Colorado Avalanche, $8,500 - Duchene has been one of the hottest players on the planet in the month of November, racking 10 goals and 17 points in just 11 games. The Ottawa Senators are having a tough season on the back end thus far. They have been a terrible possession team, which has led to many scoring chances against and a league high (34.4) shots against per game. The Sens are also playing their second game in as many nights. Look for Duchene and the Avs’ top line to be involved in multiple goals this evening.
Kyle Okposo, New York Islanders, $6,400 - The Philadelphia Flyers are one of the NHL’s weakest defensive teams and are my top team to target against tonight. The Flyers have allowed the second-most shots against per game (33.0) this season and they have given up the most high-danger scoring chances in hockey. Okposo has points in five straight games and I love his potential in this plus matchup.
Artemi Panarin, Chicago Blackhawks, $4,600 - Despite being on the road in a neutral matchup, I still want exposure to Panarin tonight. The 24-year-old rookie is scoring at a point per game pace (7 G, 21 PTS, 51 SOG in 21 GP) and he is still way underpriced. As long as he continues to play alongside Patrick Kane at both even strength and on the power play, he will be a staple in my cash game lineup.
John Carlson, Washington Capitals, $6,100 - The Winnipeg Jets continue to put themselves in a hole on a nightly basis with a league-high 14.4 penalty minutes per game. The Washington Capitals are a top five offense and they should feast on this undisciplined Winnipeg squad. Look for Carlson to break through with the man advantage tonight on home ice.
