It is the calm before the storm, as we have three games on tap tonight before the NHL schedule explodes with 13 games tomorrow night. The Edmonton Oilers are the biggest favorite tonight and none of the six teams hitting the ice are playing in consecutive games.
Make sure to check the RotoGrinders NHL Starting Goalies Page to confirm that the goalies listed below are starting prior to game time.
Cam Talbot, Edmonton Oilers, $8,400 - Without a lot to trust in goal tonight on this short slate, Talbot becomes the top option by default. However, the 28-year-old netminder has been outstanding of late, posting a 2.00 GAA along with a .935 SV% and two shutouts in the month of March. The Vancouver Canucks are not much of an offensive threat, ranking 28th in shots per game and 29th in goals per game this season. Look for Talbot to make 25 plus saves and come away with the win.
Connor McDavid, Edmonton Oilers, $7,000 - This will be the last game ever played at the Rexall Place, and you can bet the Oilers and their fans will be fired up tonight. The Vancouver Canucks remain one of the National Hockey League’s worst defensive teams and they are my top team to pick on this evening. Look for Connor McDavid to put on a show tonight.
Wayne Simmonds, Philadelphia Flyers, $7,900 – The Detroit Red Wings have looked awful in their own end over the past month, allowing a league high 3.50 goals against per game. Simmonds is a force to be reckoned with and he has been hot lately, with three goals, four points and nine shots on net in his last two contests. The Red Wings are struggling to keep the puck out of their net these days and they simply don’t have anyone that can contain Simmonds down low. Look for him to hit the score sheet once again tonight.
Boone Jenner, Columbus Blue Jackets, $6,400 – With eight goals and 13 points in his last 15 games, it is safe to say that Jenner is playing his best hockey of the season right now. The Toronto Maple Leafs have now lost five of their last six games, allowing 19 goals against in the process. The Maple Leafs are a banged up squad, with nine players out due to injury, which has them resembling an AHL team at best. Jenner has multi-point upside at a very moderate price.
Shayne Gostisbehere, Philadelphia Flyers, $5,100 – Gostisbehere has had a fantastic rookie season thus far for the Philadelphia Flyers and he should have a productive game in Detroit tonight. The Detroit Red Wings have been a defensive disaster recently, and making matters worse, they've has also taken the sixth-most minor penalties this season and had the NHL’s 28th-ranked penalty kill in March. The Ghost has multi-point upside on the power play alone in this game.
