Each day I will be providing my recommended player picks for your FanDuel daily fantasy hockey lineups. The goal is to help you build the optimal cash game (50/50s/double-ups/head-to-head) lineup.
After a crazy Tuesday night on and off the ice, the National Hockey League presents us with a quiet three-game slate on this Wednesday evening. The St. Louis Blues and Buffalo Sabres are your biggest favorites, and the Ottawa Senators are the only team playing on a back-to-back.
Make sure to check the RotoGrinders NHL Starting Goalies Page to confirm that the goalies listed below are starting prior to game time.
Robin Lehner, Buffalo Sabres, $8,300 – To be completely honest with you, I am not in love with any goaltender this evening. However, I plan to roll out Robin Lehner in my cash game lineups. Lehner is very reasonably priced and he should get the “all-important win” tonight. The 25-year-old Swede has been outstanding in goal so far this season for the Buffalo Sabres, posting a 2.34 GAA and a .925 SV%. With the Ottawa Senators averaging over 31 shots per game, Lehner should not only win tonight, but he should also make a decent amount of saves along the way.
Ryan O’Reilly, Buffalo Sabres, $5,700 – The Ottawa Senators will head to Buffalo tonight to play on consecutive nights, after losing last night to the Nashville Predators. With the Senators’ lack of puck skills so far in 2016-17 (ranking dead last in Corsi), and their run and gun style of hockey, we should see the Buffalo Sabres rack up plenty of scoring opportunities in this game. With Craig Anderson playing last night we could also see Mike Condon in the cage, which is definitely a downgrade in net. The Buffalo Sabres offense runs through Ryan O’Reilly, and he is my top option at center tonight considering price and matchup.
Other Top Plays: Ryan Getzalf (ANA), Jonathan Toews (CHI)
Top Value Play: Jori Lehtera (STL)
Vladimir Tarasenko, St. Louis Blues, $7,400 - The matchup against the Chicago Blackhawks may not look ideal on paper, but the Blackhawks are not a stout defensive group. Plus, Vladimir Tarasenko is completely matchup proof. The Blackhawks have tightened up their goals against lately, thanks to the superb play of Corey Crawford, but Chicago continues to allow way too many shots per game (32.3), and scoring chances against. Tarasenko on home ice is a must play for me in cash games tonight on this short slate.
Other Top Play: Patrick Kane (CHI)
Kevin Shattenkirk, St. Louis Blues, $5,700 - The Chicago Blackhawks have really struggled defensively this season and if it wasn’t for Corey Crawford’s incredible play of late, their defensive numbers would be amongst the worst in the National Hockey League. Even with his brilliant goaltending, the Blackhawks still own the league’s worst penalty kill. Kevin Shattenkirk is still underpriced in my opinion and he has multi-point upside on the power play alone this evening.
Other Top Play: Erik Karlsson (OTT)
