Each day I will be providing my recommended player picks for your FanDuel daily fantasy hockey lineups. The goal is to help you build the optimal cash game (50/50s/double-ups/head-to-head) lineup.

After an incredibly action packed night of hockey on Tuesday evening, the National Hockey League schedule takes a little breather tonight, with just three games on the docket. The Pittsburgh Penguins are the biggest favorite on the board and we have two teams (Toronto Maple Leafs and the San Jose Sharks) playing on consecutive nights.

Make sure to check the RotoGrinders NHL Starting Goalies Page to confirm that the goalies listed below are starting prior to game time.

Matt Murray, Pittsburgh Penguins, $8,900 - With the Pittsburgh Penguins a big favorite and the New York Islanders struggling on offense, it makes sense to roster Matt Murray in cash games tonight. Despite firing over 31 shots on goal per game, the New York Islanders are having trouble scoring, averaging just 2.38 goals per game, good for 21st overall in the National Hockey League. With the Islanders shooting over 31 times per game and the Penguins allowing over 32 shots on net per game, Murray should make plenty of saves tonight en route to a victory this evening.

Sidney Crosby, Pittsburgh Penguins, $9,200 – Crosby has been a scoring machine so far this season, producing 15 goals in 16 contests, and he should remain hot against a New York Islanders team that is really struggling defensively. In the last month, the Islanders have allowed the fourth-most shots against (32.8) and the third-most goals against per game (3.08). Look for Sid the Kid to score again tonight as he leads the Pittsburgh Penguins’ offensive attack.

Jeff Carter, Los Angeles Kings, $7,200 - Year after year the Los Angeles Kings dominate the puck possession game and the same can be said this year. When you constantly have the puck, scoring chances generally follow, putting the Kings in a position to produce multiple goals on a nightly basis. I usually don’t go out of my way to pick on San Jose, but this is a short-slate, and the Sharks are playing on consecutive nights, and we know Los Angeles will have scoring opportunities. Carter has a high floor thanks to his ability to rack up the shots, and he also owns a high ceiling, thanks to his multi-goal upside.

Other Top Plays: John Tavares (NYI), Evgeni Malkin (PIT)

Top Mid-Tier Plays: Sean Monahan (CGY), Auston Mathews (TOR)

Top Value Play: Nick Bonino (PIT)

Mitchell Marner ($5,700) & William Nylander ($5,100), Toronto Maple Leafs - Despite playing in consecutive road games, I still think the young Toronto Maple Leafs are in play tonight. The Calgary Flames are definitely a team we can pick on, considering they are a poor puck possession team that has allowed the fifth-most goals per game in hockey this season. Calgary has also taken the most minor penalties in the league this year, and they own the 29th ranked penalty kill. Both Marner and Nylander are reasonably priced and make solid cash game plays on this three-game slate.

Top Plays: Patric Hornqvist (PIT), James van Riemsdyk (TOR)

Top Mid-Tier Play: Tyler Toffoli (LAK)

Top Value Plays: Troy Brouwer (CGY), Zach Hyman (TOR)

Kris Letang, Pittsburgh Penguins, $7,500 - If you can afford to pay up on defense tonight, Kris Letang should be in your cash game lineup. The New York Islanders are not only weak defensively, they are also taking too many penalties, and their 27th ranked penalty kill is not helping matters. In a game where I expect the Penguins to dominate puck possession, Letang should see plenty of scoring opportunities at both even strength and with the man advantage.

Other Top Plays: Brent Burns (SJ), Mark Giordano (CGY)

Top Mid-Tier Plays: Nick Leddy (NYI), Morgan Rielly (TOR)

Top Value Plays: Nikita Zaitsev & Jake Gardiner (TOR), T.J. Brodie (CGY)
