Each day I will be providing my recommended player picks for your FanDuel daily fantasy hockey lineups. The goal is to help you build the optimal cash game (50/50s/double-ups/head-to-head) lineup.
After a massive 14-game slate on Tuesday night, the National Hockey League slows down on this Wednesday night, with only three games on tap. The Los Angeles Kings are the biggest favorite on the board, and every team hitting the ice tonight aside from the Calgary Flames is playing on consecutive nights.
Make sure to check the RotoGrinders NHL Starting Goalies Page to confirm that the goalies listed below are starting prior to game time.
Peter Budaj, Los Angeles Kings, $8,300 – The Los Angeles Kings are by far the biggest favorite on the board tonight and for good reason. The Colorado Avalanche are not just a terrible defensive team, they also struggle on offense, sitting dead last overall in goals per game so far in 2016-17. Peter Budaj is a fine choice for your cash game goalie this evening; not only should he cruise to an easy victory, but he is also very moderately priced. Budaj has done a nice job filling in for the injured Jonathan Quick this season and I think we see another strong performance from him tonight. If Jeff Zatkoff gets the start, roll him out with confidence and enjoy the discount.
Jeff Carter, Los Angeles Kings, $7,900 - The Colorado Avalanche are a joke of a hockey team, especially on the defensive side, which means we should be attacking them each and every night they take the ice. Colorado has now lost eight straight contests and 13 of their last 14. The Avalanche are a terrible possession team and they continue to lead the league in goals against per game. As one of the best possession teams in hockey, the Kings should create plenty of scoring opportunities in this game. As their biggest scoring threat, Jeff Carter has multi-goal upside in this tasty matchup at the Staples Center.
Top Value Play: David Krejci (BOS)
Alexander Ovechkin, Washington Capitals, $9,000 - Even though both the Boston Bruins and Washington Capitals are playing on consecutive nights, I still give the edge to Alexander Ovechkin and the Capitals. Washington will not only be on home ice, but they are also likely to face Bruins back-up goalie Anton Khudobin. The “Great Eight” is as safe as they come (thanks to a high floor and even higher ceiling), and I will be doing my best to get him into my lineup tonight.
Drew Doughty, Los Angeles Kings, $6,400 - Ok, so we know the Colorado Avalanche are a bad team, but let me tell you why I am most excited about rostering Drew Doughty tonight. The Avalanche are not just poor defensively, they are also undisciplined (seventh-most penalty minutes per game), and they have not had much success while short-handed (25th ranked penalty kill). Doughty has racked up points in five straight contests and I think we see him hit the score sheet once again this evening.
Top Value Plays: T.J. Brodie (CGY), Matthew Dumba (MIN)
