Each day I will be providing my recommended player picks for your FanDuel daily fantasy hockey lineups. The goal is to help you build the optimal cash game (50/50s/double-ups/head-to-head) lineup.
It’s hump day, which means we get a fairly light schedule in the National Hockey League tonight with just three games on tap. The Columbus Blue Jackets, New York Rangers and Anaheim Ducks are tonight’s favorites, and the Rangers are the only team playing on consecutive nights.
Make sure to check the RotoGrinders NHL Starting Goalies Page to confirm that the goalies listed below are starting prior to game time.
Sergei Bobrovsky, Columbus Blue Jackets, $9,100 - Despite facing a pretty good offense this evening, Sergei Bobrovsky seems like the best choice in goal for cash games. The Columbus Blue Jackets are the biggest favorite on the board and Bobrovsky has been terrific in goal all season long (2.04 GAA, .934 SV%). The 28-year-old Russian has been at his best when playing on home ice (1.88 GAA, .939 SV%), and he has been nearly unbeatable in the month of March (1.14 GAA, .963 SV% with three shutouts). Look for the Blue Jackets goaltender to keep rolling tonight en route to his 40th win of the season.
NOTE: If Joonas Korpisalo gets the start, roll him out with confidence and enjoy the discount.
Ryan Getzlaf, Anaheim Ducks, $7,700 – The Anaheim Ducks’ top line has been one of the hottest lines in the National Hockey League recently. Getzlaf has 13 points in his last nine games, and six points in his past four contests. Getzlaf and his linemates have shown great chemistry together and I don’t see the Edmonton Oilers slowing them down tonight at the Honda Center. The Ducks captain is playing his best hockey of the season right now, and I expect him to find the score sheet at least once tonight, and perhaps multiple times.
Top Value Play: Sam Gagner (CLB)
Cam Atkinson, Columbus Blue Jackets, $7,200 – The Columbus Blue Jackets are my top-rated offense tonight on home ice, making Cam Atkinson a must-play in cash games. The Blue Jackets’ young sniper is having a career year (33 goals and 60 points in 71 games) and he is one of the main reasons why Columbus has scored the fourth-most goals per game in the National Hockey League this season. The Toronto Maple Leafs have had a terrific season overall, but they are far from a complete team, while struggling mightily with their defensive zone coverage. As a result, the Maple Leafs remain a bottom-five team in shots allowed (32.8), SCA/60, and xGA/60. Atkinson has multi-goal potential in this plus matchup at the Nationwide Arena this evening.
Zach Werenski, Columbus Blue Jackets, $5,700 – The Toronto Maple Leafs are the youngest team in hockey and they are still learning how to play defense, which makes them a great team to pick on each and every time they hit the ice. Tonight, the Blue Jackets have the highest projected goal total, and I expect Zach Werenski to be heavily involved in the scoring. The 19-year-old blueliner has been outstanding throughout the 2016-17 season, hitting the score sheet with regularity as the Blue Jackets’ power play quarterback. Werenski can do it all offensively and he is my top option on defense this evening.
