I’m excited to be back this season and will be writing up my favorite GPP plays every Monday.
Tonight, we have a solid eight-game slate to examine. It’s still really early in the season and we still have a lot of things to learn. With that being said, I think we’re starting to see trends emerge and have figured out which teams have and haven’t improved in the offseason.
Eric Bledsoe vs. Sacramento Kings - ***Bledsoe has been ruled out for this evening*** It’s risky to consider anyone on the Suns, but they’re actually home favorites tonight against the Kings. Luckily for Phoenix, Sacramento shouldn’t blow out any team this season, and as ugly as this game will be, there is some fantasy goodness to go around. We have two faster-paced teams matching up and a game with a 210 implied total. In the close game against the Lakers, Bledsoe played 29 minutes and had 41 fantasy points. He has a 28% usage rate in three games this season, and in what's projected to be a close game, I think he has some intriguing upside at lower ownership tonight.
Bradley Beal @ Denver Nuggets - James Harden is always a top play, so I really didn’t feel the need to write him up here. Elsewhere, I love this Washington/Denver matchup tonight and I think it’s going to be my highest targeted game overall. We have a 223 implied total in Vegas, and Denver is the favorite. After two games this season, Wall has a 36.4% usage, while Beal has a 32% usage. The SG has 35 shot attempts in two games, but the most impressive thing is the 23 free throw attempts. It’s a great spot for a high usage shooting guard, so he has a lot of upside here.
Taurean Prince @ Miami Heat - Small forward is my least favorite position tonight, so I could totally understand paying up for Kevin Durant if you want a high floor. If you’re paying up, you’ll likely need some value, and I think Prince is good value on FanDuel at $5,400. With Dennis Schroder doubtful for Atlanta, and Hassan Whiteside doubtful on the other side, there is a lot of usage to go around in this game. Schroder has a 36.7% usage rate in 67 minutes this season, and with him unlikely to go, I expect Bazemore and Prince to get a bump. This game doesn’t have a total out yet, but I would expect it to be one of the lower totals on the slate. This usually drives people to other games, so I’m hoping we get Prince at lower ownership tonight.
Giannis Antetokounmpo vs. Charlotte Hornets - If there is one stud I’m doing everything I can to get into my lineups, it’s going to be Giannis. He’s one of the best players in the league and is off to an amazing start. He’s averaging 64.4 FanDuel points per game after the first three games. The Greek Feak has a 37.6% usage rate, and he’s averaging 1.62 DraftKings points per minute. He’s put up over 60 FanDuel points in each of the first three games, and I think he has another good shot to do that tonight. The Bucks are favorites tonight against the Hornets, but I’m not expecting a blowout in this game. With Kidd-Gilchrist and Zeller already ruled out for this game, the Hornets are already short on defenders to guard Giannis.
Lucas Nogueira vs. San Antonio Spurs - This is a very risky play tonight, and I’m just going off of what we saw in the team's recent matchup against the 76ers. Valanciunas got hurt in that one and Nogueira was the player that came in for him and played down the stretch. He had 10 points and nine rebounds in 16 minutes, and I would expect him to play 20+ minutes tonight without Valanciunas. The Spurs don’t typically play small and will need someone to guard Pau Gasol. I’m hoping we don’t get any news on who will start for the Raptors and therefore get Nogueira at low ownership. He’s listed as a center on FanDuel, but he’s a $4,000 power forward on DraftKings tonight, so he's an interesting value play to consider.
