Welcome to the NBA DFS Bargains column, where we’ll sort through underrated players on DRAFT while also mining for value in salary cap formats like FanDuel and DraftKings. Please take note that this article was created earlier in the day, so pertinent injury information and breaking news could add or subtract bargain situations. Paying attention to our NBA News & Headlines feed is one way to stay on top of everything.
With that, let’s go ahead and dive into the bargain bin!
Deandre Ayton – C – Phoenix (DRAFT Projection: 33.4)
The matchup isn’t very good against the Spurs, but Ayton has room to thrive anyway. The Suns ask him to do so much for their frontcourt, so he’ll see plenty of volume to flirt with another 40-45 FP outing. On top of that, Devin Booker’s potential absence could raise his usage rate as well. Despite the 33.4 FP projection on DRAFT, I believe Ayton deserves to be considered alongside other centers like DeAndre Jordan and Rudy Gobert.
Luka Doncic – G - Dallas (DRAFT Projection: 32.3)
It seems that every time I’m doing the NBA DFS Bargains article these two rookies make the cut on DRAFT. Perhaps their projections still don’t know how to rate Ayton and Doncic. The former is looking at a beautiful matchup against a fast-paced Lakers team. Doncic is coming off a massive line Monday at San Antonio, racking up 31 points and eight boards for 46.60 FP. There’s a chance he hovers within that range this evening.
DraftKings & FanDuel Bargains
Tyus Jones – PG – Minnesota (FD: $3,900 / DK: $3,400)
Jeff Teague and Jimmy Butler have been ruled out tonight, so Tyus Jones should be asked to play 30+ minutes with ball-handling duties. Despite a crummy matchup vs Utah, he’s an obvious value play at near-minimum price points on both FanDuel and DraftKings. On top of that, Jones could be asked to do even more if Andrew Wiggins (questionable) misses another game. Either way, Tyus is a bargain building block through all DFS formats.
Derrick Rose – PG – Minnesota (FD: $5,500 / DK: $4,900)
As mentioned in the previous write-up, Minnesota’s backcourt is pretty thin tonight. D-Rose was already seeing quality minutes to produce a solid 28 FPPG average to begin the season. There’s a chance he’ll elaborate on that with Butler and Teague out (plus Wiggins questionable). I don’t mind loading up on the cheap Timberwolves backcourt given their current thin rotation.
Josh Okogie – SG – Minnesota (FD: $4,600 / DK: $4,400)
Okogie is a strong play on FanDuel while making for just a decent bargain filler on DraftKings. If Andrew Wiggins (questionable) is ruled out, he becomes a no-brainer on both sites. Okogie will be asked to play significant minutes either way due to the absences of Jimmy Butler and Jeff Teague. The rookie has proven to be a high-energy player who can stuff the stat-sheet with points, boards, and peripheral numbers. Go ahead and keep an eye on this situation to see who is starting and confirm the status of Wiggins.
Wesley Matthews – SG – Dallas (FD: $4,900 / DK: $5,000)
In typical Wesley Matthews fashion, the Dallas shooting guard has been up-and-down to begin the season. The good news comes from him still seeing a ton of minutes while stepping into a great matchup against a fast-paced Lakers team. That should have him profiling towards the 30+ FP performances as of late instead of the 13 FP flop on Monday.
Jabari Parker – SF/PF – Chicago (DK: $6,000)
Take note that this recommendation is more for DraftKings, as Parker is incredibly underpriced over there. His role and playing time has grown due to injuries within the Chicago starting rotation. That has led to a total of 60 minutes and 75 fantasy points over his past two games. I wouldn’t be surprised if Parker kept that pace in a favorable home draw vs Denver.
Devin Booker and Isaiah Canaan have both been ruled out for the Suns tonight. Elie Okobo started last game in this scenario, racking up 34.75 FP through 31 minutes at Oklahoma City. This news elevates him to one of the better overall bargains of the night, pushing him towards the same category as Tyus Jones.
