NHL GPP Plays: Thursday

Every Tuesday and Thursday I am going to give you my top tournament plays for all Daily Fantasy Hockey GPPs (guaranteed prize pool). GPPs are a general term used across the industry for your big money tournaments.

GPPs are very different from your cash games and you use a different strategy with them. In our GPPs we are not interested in safe plays, since GPPs are all about UPSIDE. We want players who can explode, as all-or-nothing type players can become GPP gold, and your value players are just as important as your star players. You need your players to have huge nights in order to take down these big tournaments.

My goal is to provide players who will be under-owned and have that big game upside you are looking for. I will also try to find as much value as I possibly can. Now, let’s get to the FanDuel NHL GPP plays!

GOALTENDERS

Make sure to check the RotoGrinders Starting Goalies Page prior to game time, to confirm that the goalies listed below are starting.

Mike Condon, Montreal Canadiens – Condon is the only value goaltender I can see getting a win tonight. Not only can he come away with the big “W” but he should see a fair amount of shots in this game, with the Canadiens allowing over 32 shots per game this month. Condon is far from elite, but the price is right and the upside is there.

Other Goalies To Target – Robin Lehner, Ondrej Pavelec, Cam Talbot

FORWARDS

Jack Eichel, Buffalo Sabres - The thermometer continues to rise on future star Jack Eichel. In his last four contests, the former second overall pick has tallied three goals, and fired 17 shots on net. Eichel gets better every game and he has developed great chemistry with his young linemates Evander Kane and Sam Reinhart. The Montreal Canadiens have lost four of their past five games, allowing almost four goals against per game. With the Habs' sub-par goaltending I love the potential that Eichel and his linemates bring to the table tonight in a GPP.

Alex Galchenyuk, Montreal Canadiens – Galchenyuk is sizzling hot. He has recorded three multi-goal games in his past four contests and he has produced an amazing nine goals in the last seven games. Now those are some sick numbers. Despite this hot streak, his price has remained low to moderate across most sites. With a home matchup against the Buffalo Sabres, there is no reason to think he goes cold tonight.

Justin Abdelkader, Detroit Red Wings - Abdelkader had been pretty quiet of late (2 PTS in his last 8 GP) but he did score in his last game and he should see plenty of scoring opportunities tonight. The Winnipeg Jets are not playing very good hockey these days (2-6-2 in their last 10 games), and they continue to not only take way too many penalties (more minor penalties than anyone else in hockey), but they also struggle to kill them off (23rd-ranked penalty kill). Playing on the Detroit Red Wings’ top line and number one power play unit opens the door for a big night. With his inexpensive price across the industry, he is one of the top value options on the night.

Charlie Coyle, Minnesota Wild – I imagine the Minnesota Wild’s top line will be quite popular tonight against a defensively challenged Edmonton Oilers squad, but that doesn’t mean you should fade them. Playing on the Wild’s top line and number one power play unit alongside Zach Parise, Coyle provides the best value on this potent line.

Other Forwards To Target – Connor McDavid, Mark Scheifele, Nick Bjugstad, Logan Couture, Taylor Hall, Drew Stafford, Reilly Smith, Patrick Marleau

DEFENSEMEN

Matt Dumba, Minnesota Wild and Niklas Kronwall, Detroit Red Wings – In my tournament play tonight I am looking for value defensemen that have multi-point upside. Both Matt Dumba and Niklas Kronwall fit this description. Not only are these two offensive blue liners seeing plenty of power play ice time, but they are both on home ice facing weak teams.

Other Defensemen To Target – Brian Campbell, Rasmus Ristolainen, Andrei Markov, Dmitry Kulikov
