Week 8 FanDuel Recap

Updated On: December 3, 2018, 6:02 pm ET

Week 8 was the proverbial week of darkness for those that still play season-long leagues. There were injuries galore in the NFL, as players like Le'Veon Bell, Steve Smith, Matt Forte, Ryan Fitzpatrick, and others were hit by the injury bug. The good news for the daily fantasy community is that we don't have to worry about losing those players for an extended period. Hopefully, you didn't have any of those players on your rosters in Week 8! It was a crazy week, as Drew Brees and Eli Manning combined for 13 touchdown passes in a single game, but that was relegated to a back story because of all the injuries.

Here's a look at the winning lineup for this week's “Sunday Million” tournament on FanDuel:

It is certainly no surprise that the winning lineup had three players from the 52-49 Saints/Giants shootout. The big payday this week went to user “westcoast4,” and he secured a $500,000 payday with Greg Olsen's touchdown catch on Monday night. Drew Brees was obviously a big key to his lineup, as Brees had a meager 3.8% ownership clip in the Sunday Million. He threw for 511 yards and seven scores in the game, for a 47.6 fantasy point total that is perhaps the highest I have ever seen from a quarterback. westcoast4 paired Brees up with Brandin Cooks, who caught two of those seven touchdowns from Brees. Odell Beckham Jr. was the other big performer in this game that found his way onto the winning roster, as he grabbed eight passes for 130 yards and three scores. Brees and Beckham alone combined to outscore some full lineups this week!

The running backs on the winning lineup both had solid days, with Todd Gurley breaking off a long touchdown run and Ronnie Hillman scoring twice for the Broncos on Sunday night. Gurley was a popular pick on the week and had a 45% ownership level in this tournament, but Hillman checked in at just 4% and was a great value option for those that took the chance. This was the start of a nice pattern in which the winner had some popular plays (like Gurley) and some low-owned options (like Hillman).

This pattern continued with the other receivers that the winner took. In addition to Beckham and Cooks, who were 9.1% and 4% owned, respectively, he paired them up with the popular pick of Stefon Diggs. The breakout talent for Minnesota was having a quiet day until he broke off a 40-yard touchdown catch in the final two minutes of the game, which helped him pay off a very modest salary tag. The other pass-catcher on the winning lineup was Greg Olsen, who ended up being the player that put westcoast3 over the top with a touchdown on Monday night.

Rounding out the top lineup of the week was Dan Bailey at kicker and the Texans Defense. Both were rock-solid options in Week 8, as Bailey accounted for all the Dallas points with four field goals. The Houston defense also had their best performance of the year, as they harassed Zach Mettenberger and the Titans. They sacked Mettenberger seven times, intercepted him once, and forced the Titans to fumble the ball away twice. The Texans also were owned at less than 5% for the week. This rounded out a solid winning lineup in which the kicker was the worst performer, and even he scored 14 points. Congratulations to westcoast3 and all the other winners in Week 8!

STLCardinals84: Week 8 Recap

Well, this part will be easy. I took a breather week on FanDuel for Week 8. Saturday was Halloween and was a crazy night with my two boys, and we had a nice family weekend. I even forgot to set my lineup for the FantasyPros Daily Fantasy Accuracy Challenge (oops!). As a result, I don't have a lineup to break down in this section. This segment will be back in action for Week 9.
