This article outlines the best daily fantasy MLB plays of the day at every position. We take a comprehensive look to uncover these core recommendations, factoring respective salaries into the analysis.
Please note, these player picks were organized early in the day. For MLB contests, always check lineups and weather closer to game time. Rain, wind, or unexpected managerial decisions could open up additional sources of value. Be sure to keep an eye on the MLB Headlines and Injuries desk.
We will be looking at the two-game slate starting at 4:07 ET.
Gerrit Cole - NY Yankees (vs. Tampa Bay) - DK: $8,600 FD: $10,900 Yahoo: $52
Cole is probably the most obvious DFS pitcher of this two-game slate, as he’ll give your fantasy squad a good chance at cashing. Out of all the hurlers starting on Monday, Cole is the only one who can confidently toss seven or more innings. The other pitchers (even Snell) will likely have a quick hook after pitching five (or less) innings. This matchup isn’t a cakewalk for Cole, as he has had some trouble with the Rays this season: 3 starts, 16.1 IP, 20 H, 9 ER. However, the Yankees’ ace also has 27 strikeouts in those 16.1 innings against Tampa, and he appears to be in peak form.
Also Consider: Blake Snell

Gary Sanchez - NY Yankees (vs. Tampa Bay) - DK: $4,400 FD: $3,000 Yahoo: $13
Sanchez and Sean Murphy are the two best offensive catchers on this slate. Assuming the salary cap permits it, I’ll be rolling the dice with Sanchez on Monday night. The NYY backstop is the epitome of a boom-or-bust fantasy option, but I believe he has the highest upside of these four catchers. For what it’s worth, Sanchez is 6-20 with five homers against Snell, but he also has 11 strikeouts in this matchup.
Also Consider: Sean Murphy
Yuli Gurriel - Houston (vs. Oakland) - DK: $3,600 FD: $2,700 Yahoo: $7
I’ll be looking towards value at first base. That’s where Gurriel steps in as a comfortable option from a salary point of view. He should see several RBI opportunities while hitting sixth for the Astros. Houston will square off against Oakland RHP Chris Bassitt, who was named MLB’s September Pitcher of the Month. Even though Bassitt has shown drastic improvement this season, it’s still worth pointing out that Gurriel is 7-19 lifetime against the A’s righty.
Also Consider: Ji-Man Choi (punt)
DJ LeMahieu - NY Yankees (vs. Tampa Bay) - DK: $5,200 FD: $4,000 Yahoo: $19
LeMahieu is just an outstanding player. He hit .364 in the regular season, keeping that going with three hits and two RBI in two games against Cleveland last series. Sure, DJ is expensive on all DFS sites, but I believe he’ll be worth the premium - even in a difficult matchup against Snell and Rays. LeMahieu has a fantastic floor/ceiling combination, which is something that seems elusive in this brief two-game slate.
Also Consider: Jose Altuve
Chad Pinder - Oakland (vs. Houston) - DK: 2,700 FD: $2,000 Yahoo: $8
We’ll need to double-check if Pinder cracks the starting lineup on Monday. He’s usually a specialist against left-handed pitching, but take note that Pinder started in the DH spot against a righty last series. The Oakland utility player is priced near the minimum on all three DFS sites, and he has come through with three hits and two RBI in his last two postseason games. There’s a chance Jake Lamb starts at third, then Pinder eventually comes in against a left-handed pitcher, so keep that in mind.
Also Consider: Alex Bregman
Marcus Semien - Oakland (vs. Houston) - DK: $4,200 FD: $3,500 Yahoo: $17
We know Semien will hold a premium lineup spot for Oakland on Monday. He’s the best DFS shortstop of the day while stepping in against Houston RHP McCullers and company. It's worth noting that Semien is 7-19 lifetime against McCullers. He was a hero for Oakland in their last series against the White Sox, and Semien shouldn’t be overwhelmed by anyone on Houston’s pitching staff.
Also Consider: Carlos Correa
Ramon Laureano - Oakland (vs. Houston) - DK: $4,000 FD: $3,000 Yahoo: $9
I really like Laureano regardless of where he’s hitting in the lineup. His salary is especially cheap on FanDuel and Yahoo, but I believe you can squeeze him into a quality roster on DraftKings as well. The matchup against Lance McCullers Jr. isn't too shabby within the context of this two-game slate. It’s also comforting to know that he’s a capable right-handed bat who won’t fall into the dreaded lefty/lefty draw out of the bullpen.
George Springer - Houston (vs. Oakland) - DK: $5,400 FD: $4,100 Yahoo: $22
Springer is an obvious choice on this slate, as he has a strong combination of contact, power, speed, and run-scoring ability. Oakland RHP Chris Bassitt was very good down the stretch, but he also holds a mediocre strikeout rate compared to the other pitchers of this slate. Springer could generate solid contact that eventually translates into fantasy production. Don’t be afraid to look towards teammate Michael Brantley (or combine the two) if Springer is too expensive.
