Welcome to the NBA DFS Bargains column, where we’ll sort through underrated players on DRAFT while also mining for value in salary cap formats like FanDuel and DraftKings. Please take note that this article was created earlier in the day, so pertinent injury information and breaking news could add or subtract bargain situations. Paying attention to our NBA News & Headlines feed is one way to stay on top of everything.
With that, let’s go ahead and dive into the bargain bin!
Derrick Rose – G – Minnesota (DRAFT Projection: 25.4)
I promise this isn’t an overreaction to Wednesday’s 50 point (64 FP) surge vs Utah. Rose would enter the value conversation if Jeff Teague (questionable) misses another game. Take note that Tyus Jones is questionable as well, and his absence would make more room in the Minnesota backcourt. However, Teague’s status is the main one to monitor. If he’s out, Rose’s projection should climb closer to a 32 FP level. If Teague ends up playing, this is a fair projection for Rose – although he has beaten this mark in six of his last seven.
Luka Doncic – G - Dallas (DRAFT Projection: 31.5)
Doncic continues to be underrated on DRAFT, so keep that in mind while looking for a guard in larger leagues. I have Doncic more in the 35-37 FP range while facing a below average Knicks defense that ranks 18th in team d-efficiency. There will be ups-and-downs for the rookie this season, but his minutes are plentiful and the upside remains strong.
DraftKings & FanDuel Bargains
Ricky Rubio – PG – Utah (FD: $6,200 / DK: $5,700)
Donovan Mitchell and Alec Burks have been ruled, so Ricky Rubio will run the show as Utah’s primary ball-handler. His minutes should solidify around the 34-36 range while picking up extra usage as well. The matchup vs Memphis isn’t great, but Rubio still makes for an excellent value commodity with a boost in playing time and rates this evening. Go ahead and lock him in through all formats on both sites!
Wendell Carter Jr. – C – Chicago (DK: $5,000)
Carter is unbelievably underpriced on DraftKings, and you’d be wise to take advantage. For comparison, I’m considering his $7200 salary on FanDuel relatively fair. Carter has been picking up meaningful minutes for the banged-up Chicago frontcourt, impressing with 30+ FP in three straight. His remarkable 25-8-5 line in Wednesday’s overtime loss to Denver may have earned him extra minutes moving forward. At the very least, Carter has proven that he can fill up the stat-sheet in a hurry.
Derrick Rose – PG – Minnesota (FD: $6,000 / DK: $5,500)
I already touched on Rose earlier in this article. I’ll be looking towards him if Jeff Teague is ruled out tonight, but my interest wanes if Teague ends up playing. This is a massive 242 over/under at Golden State, and Rose could certainly find some adequate production within that. However, remember that Jimmy Butler plans to return tonight, which will likely cut into Rose’s usage.
Jae Crowder – SF – Utah (FD: $5,100 / DK: $5,100)
Crowder has been looking good lately with 27+ fantasy points in two straight games. His playing time and usage should be solidified with Donovan Mitchell out, giving him a chance to keep the heater alive. I like Crowder a little more on FanDuel where there’s less opportunity cost with no multi-position eligibility … You can also look towards Utah SF Royce O’Neale as a minimum-salary punt on FanDuel. He could also see more action with Mitchell out.
Harrison Barnes – SF – Dallas (FD: $6,000 / DK: 5,300)
Barnes missed the first four games of the season, but he is back in the fold for his usual 35 or so minute workload. Some poor shooting performances against the Lakers and Jazz limited his fantasy output, but facing a New York team that ranks dead last in defensive efficiency vs opposing small forwards seems like a blowup spot for him. Barnes is still moderately priced on both FanDuel and DraftKings, so definitely keep him in mind while filling out lineups.
