NBA DFS Bargains Monday 3/9

by Ryan Knaus
Updated On: March 9, 2020, 10:56 am ET

We have a tidy three-game slate this Monday, but there’s still plenty of DFS value to be mined. From guys you almost must target to potential punt plays, we're here to break down the biggest values. In this column, I’m talking primarily about players with salaries around $6,000 or cheaper. Let's start with a quick look at Vegas’ expectations for tonight’s slate.

Hornets at Hawks

Hawks -4.0

Bucks at Nuggets

Nuggets -5.5

Raptors at Jazz

Jazz -4.0

Point Guard

Terry Rozier (Yahoo – $22 FanDuel – $5,900 DraftKings – $6,600)

The Hornets play the Hawks tonight, and it’s a matchup you’ll want exposure to thanks to Atlanta’s generosity as a DFS opponent. No team has yielded more overall value over the past 10 games, and Atlanta is giving up the fifth-most to point guards. Rozier is in a bit of a groove lately with 22+ DFS points in six straight games, and his lowest games in that span came vs. the Bucks and Nuggets. His ceiling might be around 40 DFS points, so there’s a bit more cash-game appeal here, but I’m still biting thanks to his reasonable price and terrific matchup. George Hill and Monte Morris are also worth a look if you need to go even cheaper at PG.

Shooting Guard

Norman Powell (Yahoo – $24 FanDuel – $5,500 DraftKings – $6,800)

There’s a case to be made for avoiding Powell tonight – it’s the second half of a back-to-back set, on the road vs. Utah’s defense, and Powell will have sky-high ownership rates. Then again, the reason for his newfound DFS popularity is glaring, with 40+ in three straight games. That includes a career-high 37 points vs. the Warriors on Thursday, and 31 points last night vs. the Kings. He’s been thriving vs. bad teams and will get a stiffer challenge tonight, of course, but you still almost have to play him at these prices (even though he’s at his season-high price in Yahoo and DraftKings). I’m also fully sold on Donte DiVincenzo, who has been terrific lately and will play extra minutes without Giannis Antetokounmpo (knee). With a Norm/Donte pairing at SG, you have excellent upside with low salaries, so you can splurge on stars elsewhere. You might also consider going Khris Middleton/DiVincenzo to double-down on the impact of Giannis being out.

Small Forward

Cam Reddish (Yahoo – $18 FanDuel – $4,600 DraftKings – $4,500)

The pool of available SFs tonight does not thrill me. Giannis Antetokounmpo (knee) is out, Pascal Siakam and OG Anunoby suffer due to the matchup vs. Utah, and the mid-tier guys (Bojan Bogdanovic, Will Barton, Miles Bridges) lack the upside I’d want at $5k+. I’m not opposed to playing Joe Ingles tonight, but will instead deploy a pair of Hawks rookies with Reddish and De’Andre Hunter. Both guys are capable of posting 30+ DFS points, though you’ll want to double-check that Hunter is available – he’s currently questionable due to a left knee bruise. Reddish had some leg cramping on Saturday but he’s not even on the injury report for Monday’s game vs. Charlotte.

Power Forward

Jerami Grant (Yahoo – $13 FanDuel – $3,700 DraftKings – $4,300)

I’ll be playing John Collins everywhere, so I may need to save some cash with my second PF. Grant fits the bill nicely, having scored 21+ DFS points in five of his past six games. His minutes will be modest with Paul Millsap, Torrey Craig and Michael Porter Jr. all in the mix, but he’s still a solid ‘glue guy’ for DFS lineups. I’m also eyeing P.J. Washington, who is playing very well and has a nice mid-round pricetag in every league. He’s actually just $18 in Yahoo tonight, too, making him a site-specific target if you’re on Y!

Dewayne Dedmon (Yahoo – $13 FanDuel – $4,700 DraftKings – $4,100)

Dedmon is sneaky-cheap tonight. His minutes have been down since he returned from a right elbow injury, and he did shoot a mere 1-of-11 from the field on Saturday – perhaps the injury is still impacting his shot. Still, I’m betting on a bounce-back effort tonight against a Hornets frontcourt that’s been a revolving door, with Cody Zeller, Bismack Biyombo and Willy Hernangomez rotating into various roles (or DNP-CDs). Dedmon can chip in defensive stats, grab double-digit boards, and potentially score 12+ points if his 3-pointers are falling tonight. You can pay up for a safer center in Brook Lopez, or go cheaper and gamble on one of the aforementioned Hornets centers, but the sweet spot between them is Dedmon.
