NBA DFS GPP Pivots Wednesday 9/2

This article aims to highlight some of the alternative plays at each position for tonight’s main NBA slate. These are some potentially lower-owned, higher risk/reward options for use in large field GPPs. Keep in mind that the following player write-ups were constructed earlier in the day, and sometimes injury/rest situations can alter the fantasy landscape. Monitoring our NBA News & Headlines Feed throughout the day will keep you in the loop. Today’s main slate includes two games starting at 6:30 ET.

Russell Westbrook – Houston (vs. Oklahoma City) – Yahoo: $39, DK: $8900, FD: $8800

This argument isn’t going away. Westbrook couldn’t get out of his own way in Game 6 and could probably be blamed for the fact that there is a Game 7 tonight. This pivot is more like a 180 from Goran Dragic or Chris Paul, but if you want to differentiate at PG, Westbrook is the guy who could actually make a difference to your big GPP lineup.

Shai Gilgeous-Alexander – Oklahoma City (at Houston) – Yahoo: $26, DK: $7100, FD: $7100

All the credit in the world to Chris Paul the past two games. Yet I have to believe that the other Thunder guards are going to return to form at some point. Well, it’s now or never. The popular plays at this position today will be, depending on the site, James Harden, Eric Gordon, Jimmy Butler, and Tyler Herro. Gilgeous-Alexander and Schroder were dropping 40-fantasy point games not that long ago, in this series. Chances are excellent that one of them goes off tonight, so I’d hedge my large-field tournament lineups with both.

Also Consider: Dennis Schroder ($20 (PG) Yahoo, $6400 DK, $6000 FD)

Khris Middleton – (vs. Miami) – Yahoo: $29 (PF), DK: $8100, FD: $7500 (SG)

If you can use Giannis Antetokounmpo at SF, as on FanDuel, consider Middleton as a pivot off Harden. I would have thought he’d be the SF cornerstone on DraftKings or Yahoo, but our NBA DFS Optimizer still prefers the lower salary of the Houston wings (e.g. Gordon and Danuel House Jr.). Middleton is coming off a great Game 1 despite the Bucks loss, and that might slightly increase his popularity tonight. As always, SF and PF are very site-specific. Another overlooked forward for tonight on all three sites is Danilo Gallinari ($20 Yahoo, $6100 DK, $5800 FD).

Giannis Antetokounmpo – Milwaukee (vs. Miami) – Yahoo: $56, DK: $11,500, FD: $11,400

The salary for Antetokounmpo is prohibitive. It's much easier to build around Harden and Paul. If you use him, you basically have to get lucky at all the other positions you scrimped and saved on to afford the Greek Freak. Yet it could be a gamble that pays off. Giannis is definitely going to do everything in his immense power to even this series tonight. Since you’ll be surrounding him with players that have wide ranges of outcomes, I’d create several Antetokounmpo-centered rosters for multi-entry tournaments.

Steven Adams – Oklahoma City (at Houston) – Yahoo: $18, DK: $5700, FD: $5500

People will probably split fairly evenly between Adams and Brook Lopez tonight, which is a strategy you can take even with Antetokounmpo lineups. The other way I see people playing it are to save with a P.J. Tucker or Kelly Olynyk. Adams has double-digit rebounds in every game of this series except one, with two double-doubles. Might this Game 7 focus more on the bigs like last nights? You might also consider differentiating your Yahoo lineups with Bam Adebayo at center on Yahoo ($33).
