NBA DFS Plays: Tuesday 10/22

Welcome to Opening Night of the 2019 NBA season! We’ll start things off with a two-game appetizer (NO-TOR & LAL-LAC)  starting at 8 ET before diving into the main course tomorrow.

This article aims to highlight some of the best NBA DFS Plays at every position for your cash game lineups. Keep in mind that the following player write-ups were constructed earlier in the day, and sometimes injury/rest situations can alter the fantasy landscape. Monitoring our NBA News & Headlines Feed throughout the day will keep you in the loop while giving you the subsequent DFS consequences of each information piece.

Fred VanVleet - Toronto (vs. New Orleans)

The main theme of this article revolves around value plays from Toronto. With Kawhi Leonard (and Danny Green) out of town, the remaining rotation is expected to pick up more minutes and overall usage. That includes VanVleet, who was one of the heroes from the Raptors playoff run last summer. I’m expecting VanVleet to see at least 30-32 minutes in this high-scoring (231 over/under) draw against a likely fast-paced New Orleans team. That makes him an excellent bargain lift through all formats on every DFS site.

Also Consider: Lonzo Ball (better on DK), Patrick Beverley (better on FD)

Norman Powell - Toronto (vs. New Orleans)

Powell follows the same rationale outlined with his teammate, VanVleet, above. With Leonard and Green no longer in Toronto, Powell could find himself in a heightened role of 28-30 minutes despite coming off the bench. That actually helps his fantasy projection, as the Toronto guard could absorb more usage with easier individual matchups with the second team. No matter how you slice it, he makes sense through all formats on Tuesday’s brief two-game slate.

Also Consider: Lou Williams, Jrue Holiday (tournaments)

LeBron James - LA Lakers (at LA Clippers)

This comes down to which site you are playing on. For DraftKings, James and Kawhi Leonard have similar salaries. I’ll side with “LBJ” over there, and a similar situation plays out on Yahoo. However, Kawhi is $1,500 cheaper on FanDuel, which is enough to give him the nod on that platform. It’s unlikely you’ll mesh both in a viable cash lineup tonight, especially with Anthony Davis (more on him in a bit) demanding your attention at PF. James is rested and fully healthy while holding incredible fantasy upside as the Lakers’ primary ball-handler.

Also Consider: Pascal Siakam, OG Anunoby (value filler)

Anthony Davis - LA Lakers (at LA Clippers)

Let me start by saying this: Davis is almost a requirement on FanDuel. The power forward position is extremely thin over there, and we don’t have the benefit of multi-position eligibility. There’s more flexibility on DraftKings and Yahoo, but Davis is still a spectacular lift through all formats. The Lakers and Clippers both ranked top ten in pace last season, and that should continue to be the case in 2019. We shouldn’t be concerned by AD sharing the court with LeBron, as playing alongside LBJ should give Davis easier looks to boost his efficiency. The Clippers ranked bottom ten in defensive efficiency to power forwards and centers last year, and they don’t have anyone to keep Davis in check.

Also Consider: Serge Ibaka

Marc Gasol - Toronto (vs. New Orleans)

On FanDuel, Gasol makes for an easy option to round out a lineup. He’s a strong mid-range play on DraftKings and Yahoo as well, although there are more options (and flexibility) on those sites. Gasol is an efficient fantasy producer who should see a baseline of 27-30 minutes tonight. The Pelicans ranked 28th in defensive efficiency to opposing centers last year, and their (expected) fast pace should help players like Gasol squeeze out some extra fantasy production. New Orleans added Derrick Favors to their frontcourt in the offseason, but this is hardly a matchup to shy away from.

Also Consider: Derrick Favors
