NBA GPP Pivots: Monday 1/4

Welcome back to another NBA daily fantasy season! This article will provide my top pivot plays meant for GPP tournament success. Remember to check the confirmed lineups at Rotoworld Starting Lineups before lock. The most up to date information is crucial for daily fantasy success.

Point Guard

Elfrid Payton - New York Knicks (vs. Atlanta Hawks) DK: $6000 FD: $5300 Yahoo: $21

Many people will be on RJ Barrett tonight. The matchup is solid against an Atlanta team that allows major points to opposing small forwards. The pace of play should be high but most importantly, Barrett’s salary is ridiculously reasonable. So who do we pivot to? While I do like Barrett tonight, let’s try to gain leverage on the field by investing in New York’s other guard, Elfrid Payton. Payton is averaging 25.9 DK points per game over an average of 27.0 minutes per game. His ceilings are typically very high, but conversely, his floor is very low. The matchup for Payton here is Trae Young. Very tough, but doable. Remember, the Knicks have a great rim protector in Mitchell Robinson. Young will not be shut down tonight but he can be maintained. The best man for the job is New York’s starting point guard, Elfrid Payton. I can see Payton racking up some steals/blocks as Atlanta is averaging 15.0 turnovers per game, ranking them 10th highest in the NBA. Curious as to which team leads the NBA in turnovers this season? The Miami Heat with 18.4 turnovers per game. Payton is a valid hedge play if you have too much exposure to Barrett. The Knicks are +7 point underdogs with a 222.5 O/U.

Other PG Option: Payton Pritchard - Boston Celtics (vs. Toronto Raptors)

Shooting Guard

Saddiq Bey - Detroit Pistons (vs. Milwaukee Bucks) DK: $3900 FD: $4200 Yahoo: $11

Here’s my call of the month! The Detroit Pistons keep tonight’s game close (and possibly win). The Bucks are sitting at +1100 right now on PointsBet.com. This odd present an opportunity. Many people will be under the impression that because of Detroit’s long odds, rostering their players is not a good idea. It’s quite the contrary in my mind. Blake Griffin and Josh Jackson are out for Detroit tonight. Logically, the line will move. I did not think it would move to 11- 1. The truth is, Detroit has some very talented players/scorers including Derrick Rose, Saddiq Bey, Jerami Grant, and Mason Plumlee. I have also loved what I’ve seen from SG Svi Mykhailiuk when he gets his opportunities. The Pistons are no easy feat. Find value all over this Detroit lineup tonight. Saddiq Bey is simply a talented rookie getting opportunities. He was the 19th overall pick in this year’s NBA Draft. This kid is very talented and is averaging 17.6 FPPG (fantasy points per game) on DraftKings over an average of 20.2 minutes of play. Bey will be starting tonight. The Pistons are +16 point underdogs with a 224 O/U.

Other SG Option: Delon Wright & Svi Mykhailiuk - Detroit Pistons (vs. Milwaukee Bucks)

Small Forward

Brandon Ingram - New Orleans Pelicans (vs. Indiana Pacers) DK: $8400 FD: $8400 Yahoo: $35

I expect Domantas Sabonis to shutdown Zion Williamson tonight. When Zion is limited, someone must compensate. Ingram will be that guy. For GPP tournaments, Ingram carries a high upside and Rotoworld Optimizer/Projections has him at 42.8 Draftkings points and 41.4 points on Yahoo Daily Fantasy. The Pelicans are favored by - 1.5 points with a 216.5 O/U. Safe play with GPP upside here. Victor Oladipo will have a tough matchup tonight.

Other SF Option: Jerami Grant - Detroit Pistons (vs. Milwaukee Bucks)

Power Forward

Julius Randle - New York Knicks - (vs. Atlanta Hawks) DK: $9000 FD: $8100 Yahoo: $38

Julius Randle vs. John Collins is a very interesting matchup. Similar size and length, both 6’8 - 6’9 240 lbs. Collins is slightly smaller but in terms of production, I think we can expect massive nights from both of these players. Julius Randle has been impressive so far this season averaging 47.2 DK PPG over an average of 37.4 minutes per game. Yet he still goes under- rostered. Invest in Randle tonight as still very reasonable pricing on all sites.

Other PF Option: John Collins - Atlanta Hawks (vs. New York Knicks)

Mason Plumlee - Detroit Pistons (vs. Milwaukee Bucks) DK: $5800 FD: $6200 Yahoo: $21

I hope I’ve made it clear that Detroit players are viable tonight, despite at 11 to 1 underdogs. Mason Plumlee would benefit greatly from a close affair tonight. Brook Lopez is exploitable defensively but he can also stretch the floor with the three-point ball. Plumlee might be too slow to come out and contest Lopez’s threes but that remains to be seen. The Bucks have proven the ability to lose against a lesser team (ie. NYK) and Detroit beat Boston recently (almost twice). Griffin OUT gives talented players opportunities.  Pivot to Detroit value!

Other C Option: Myles Turner - Indiana Pacers (vs. New Orleans Pelicans)

Bargain Bin

PG Payton Pritchard

SG Saddiq Bey
