NHL Plays: December 18

DRAFT is back for another season of quick and exciting daily fantasy action. Their DFS platform offers poolies with a chance to participate in a format that most of us have grown very accustomed to over the years. You can compete in a live snake draft in which the participants take a player with each pick. Unlike other DFS games, this gives you the opportunity to use your knowledge to craft a team that no one else will have because the players you select cannot be chosen by your competition.

The draft is quick as you are allotted just 30 seconds per pick and you take five players. Your team is comprised of three forwards, a defenseman and a goalie.

Your strategy can be dictated by the positions being selected ahead of you. For instance, if you are going last and everyone else has a goaltender then you can wait until your last pick to make that selection. Of course, selecting players going up against weaker competition or players who are riding hot streaks are always popular strategies as well.

Remember, there are new pools available to play in but the players in my rankings will fall off the table as soon as the puck drops in their respective game.

Forward Rankings:

McDavid and the Oilers will host the struggling Blues on Tuesday night, which will make them popular picks. Scheifele and Eichel, who have been red hot, should be highly sough-after players as well. Matthews hasn’t picked up a point in his last two outings, but that could change against a sliding Devils team that he has been productive against in the past. The Leafs forward has four goals and eight points in five previous matches versus New Jersey. Vancouver has been playing well of late, but they will face a difficult matchup at home versus the Tampa Bay Lightning.

Defense Rankings:

Giordano has compiled three goals and eight assists during a five-game point streak, which earns him the first spot. Rielly and Byfuglien have been productive of late as well. It’s a fairly deep slate for defensemen, so loading up on forwards is a safe strategy.

Goaltender Rankings:

Vasilevskiy will look to bounce back on Tuesday after Winnipeg beat him five times on 42 shots Sunday night. He is still the top option, but there are other netminders that you should be confident in beyond him. Koskinen has been a brick wall at home this year with a 7-0-0 record, a 0.92 goals-against average and .970 save percentage. Hellebuyck has plenty of upside versus Los Angeles and so does Andersen in his matchup against New Jersey. Carter Hart, who isn’t listed here, could also be an intriguing option if he makes his NHL debut against Detroit.
