NHL Plays: December 20

by Corey Abbott

DRAFT is back for another season of quick and exciting daily fantasy action. Their DFS platform offers poolies with a chance to participate in a format that most of us have grown very accustomed to over the years. You can compete in a live snake draft in which the participants take a player with each pick. Unlike other DFS games, this gives you the opportunity to use your knowledge to craft a team that no one else will have because the players you select cannot be chosen by your competition.

The draft is quick as you are allotted just 30 seconds per pick and you take five players. Your team is comprised of three forwards, a defenseman and a goalie.

Your strategy can be dictated by the positions being selected ahead of you. For instance, if you are going last and everyone else has a goaltender then you can wait until your last pick to make that selection. Of course, selecting players going up against weaker competition or players who are riding hot streaks are always popular strategies as well.

Remember, there are new pools available to play in but the players in my rankings will fall off the table as soon as the puck drops in their respective game.

Familiarize yourself with the rues and enjoy! It’s a great game! Thursday’s 12-game slate features drafts for 10, eight, and six people as well as plenty of three-person drafts. There are also head-to-heads to participate in.

Forward Rankings:

Scheifele’s impressive five-game point streak (five goals, nine assists) came to an end on Tuesday, but he should bounce back on Thursday night. The Leafs and Panthers played a wild game on Saturday that resulted in a 4-3 OT win for Florida. The top players on both sides will probably be in high demand. The Calgary-Tampa Bay contest has the potential for fireworks offensively as well.

Defense Rankings:

Rielly has been all over the scoresheet this season with 11 goals and 36 points in 34 matches. Giordano is close behind with 35 points (six goals, 29 assists) through 33 contests. They have both also been hot of late. Klingberg will return to action on Thursday night for the first time since Nov. 8 because of a hand injury.

Goaltender Rankings:

Bobrovsky is coming off a shutout win over Vegas and he will face a struggling Devils squad. He also went 3-1-0 against New Jersey last year with a 2.26 goals-against average and .929 save percentage. Rinne and Andersen have both incurred some losses lately, but they have been superb overall this year and have winnable matchups. Fleury has been outstanding at home in 2018-19 with a mark of 10-3-1, a 1.99 goals-against average, a .928 save percentage and four shutouts. Gibson has rattled off four wins in his last four appearances and he has surrendered just seven goals. Hellebuyck and Vasilevskiy will face tough opponents on the road, but their solid track records could make them solid value plays if they slip.
