NHL Plays: December 27

by Corey Abbott

DRAFT is back for another season of quick and exciting daily fantasy action. Their DFS platform offers poolies with a chance to participate in a format that most of us have grown very accustomed to over the years. You can compete in a live snake draft in which the participants take a player with each pick. Unlike other DFS games, this gives you the opportunity to use your knowledge to craft a team that no one else will have because the players you select cannot be chosen by your competition.

The draft is quick as you are allotted just 30 seconds per pick and you take five players. Your team is comprised of three forwards, a defenseman and a goalie.

Your strategy can be dictated by the positions being selected ahead of you. For instance, if you are going last and everyone else has a goaltender then you can wait until your last pick to make that selection. Of course, selecting players going up against weaker competition or players who are riding hot streaks are always popular strategies as well.

Remember, there are new pools available to play in but the players in my rankings will fall off the table as soon as the puck drops in their respective game.

Familiarize yourself with the rues and enjoy! It’s a great game! Thursday’s 13-game slate features drafts for 10, eight, and six people as well as plenty of three-person drafts. There are also head-to-heads to participate in.

Forward Rankings:

McDavid and Ovechkin will be the marquee players to build around for Thursday night’s slate. Boston’s top line is back together again and they should be a handful for New Jersey. Kucherov entered the holiday break riding an eight-game point streak, which included a five-point performance last Saturday versus Edmonton. Aho posted a four-point effort versus Boston prior to the break and had a four-point performance against Washington on Dec. 14, which could make him an attractive option.

Defense Rankings:

As usual on a busy night, there will be plenty of great defense options to choose from. Josi has picked up at least one point in seven of the past 10 outings. Nashville’s injury issues have made him a focal point of the offense. Byfuglien has been hot with two goals and nine helpers in his last eight contests. Letang has reached the scoresheet in four of the last five games.

Goaltender Rankings:

Bobrovsky was excellent last week, but fellow Russian netminder Vasilevskiy is the best option in the crease. Murray has a good matchup against Detroit, assuming he gets the nod, and has been impressive since his return from injury. Halak, who has also been great this year, could face a struggling Devils squad that has dropped to last place in the Eastern Conference. Quick has some under-the-radar value after picking up wins over Winnipeg and San Jose prior to the break and a decent matchup versus the Coyotes.
