NHL Plays: December 7

by Ryan Dadoun

DRAFT is back for another season of quick and exciting daily fantasy action. Their DFS platform offers poolies with a chance to participate in a format that most of us have grown very accustomed to over the years. You can compete in a live snake draft in which the participants take a player with each pick. Unlike other DFS games, this gives you the opportunity to use your knowledge to craft a team that no one else will have because the players you select cannot be chosen by your competition.

The draft is quick as you are allotted just 30 seconds per pick and you take five players. Your team is comprised of three forwards, a defenseman and a goalie.

Your strategy can be dictated by the positions being selected ahead of you. For instance, if you are going last and everyone else has a goaltender then you can wait until your last pick to make that selection. Of course, selecting players going up against weaker competition or players who are riding hot streaks are always popular strategies as well.

Remember, there are new pools available to play in but the players in my rankings will fall off the table as soon as the puck drops in their respective game.

Familiarize yourself with the rues and enjoy! It’s a great game! Wednesday’s three-game slate features plenty of three-person drafts and head-to-heads to participate in.

Forward Rankings:

Connor McDavid

Blake Wheeler

Leon Draisaitl

Tyler Seguin

Mark Scheifele

Jamie Benn

Ryan Getzlaf

Timo Meier

Might be a bit of a stretch to include Meier on this list, but it's a quiet day and he has excelled so far this season.  With 14 goals and 26 points in 26 contests, he's just 10 points away from his 2017-18 total.  He missed time due to an upper-body injury, but he scored a goal and registered two assists in his return on Wednesday.

Defenseman Rankings:

Brent Burns

Hampus Lindholm

Mathew Dumba

Erik Karlsson

Justin Faulk

Dougie Hamilton

Lindholm is coming into tonight's action riding a three-game point streak.  Burns still strikes me as the clear cut favorite from today's options though.  He has four goals and 29 points in 29 games.

Goalie Rankings:

John Gibson

Devan Dubnyk

Connor Hellebuyck

Gibson was yanked from Sunday's game against Washington, but he allowed two or fewer goals in his other three starts dating back to Nov. 28.  He's been somewhat hit-and-miss, but he's still a solid bet tonight against Carolina.

Now, let’s also look at some players to consider for FanDuel and DraftKings.

Keep in mind that FanDuel allows you to roster nine players (2C, 4W, 2D, 1G) with a salary cap of $55,000, while DraftKings has a cap of $50,000 for nine players (2C, 3W, 2D, 1G, 1UTIL).

Ryan Nugent-Hopkins (EDM) – C - $5,600 FanDuel, $5,500 DraftKings

Adam Henrique (ANA) – C - $4,900 FanDuel, $4,000 DraftKings

Alexander Radulov (DAL) – W - $6,400 FanDuel, $7,300 DraftKings

Ondrej Kase (ANA) – W - $4,200 FanDuel, $5,000 DraftKings

Jacob Trouba (WPG) – D - $5,300 FanDuel, $5,200 DraftKings

John Gibson (ANA) – G - $8,500 FanDuel, $8,200 DraftKings

Henrique has been a consistent asset lately with a point in nine of his last 10 games.  His teammate Kase is another good, cheap option with four goals and eight points in his last nine contests.
