NHL Plays: December 9

by Ryan Dadoun

DRAFT is back for another season of quick and exciting daily fantasy action. Their DFS platform offers poolies with a chance to participate in a format that most of us have grown very accustomed to over the years. You can compete in a live snake draft in which the participants take a player with each pick. Unlike other DFS games, this gives you the opportunity to use your knowledge to craft a team that no one else will have because the players you select cannot be chosen by your competition.

The draft is quick as you are allotted just 30 seconds per pick and you take five players. Your team is comprised of three forwards, a defenseman and a goalie.

Your strategy can be dictated by the positions being selected ahead of you. For instance, if you are going last and everyone else has a goaltender then you can wait until your last pick to make that selection. Of course, selecting players going up against weaker competition or players who are riding hot streaks are always popular strategies as well.

Remember, there are new pools available to play in but the players in my rankings will fall off the table as soon as the puck drops in their respective game.

Familiarize yourself with the rues and enjoy! It’s a great game! Wednesday’s three-game slate features plenty of three-person drafts and head-to-heads to participate in.

Forward Rankings:

Connor McDavid

David Pastrnak

Patrick Kane

Leon Draisaitl

Johnny Gaudreau

Blake Wheeler

Taylor Hall

Sean Monahan

Ryan Getzlaf

Mark Scheifele

Jonathan Marchessault

If you're looking for a hot player then Gaudreau is the clear favorite.  He has six goals and 20 points in his last 11 games and is on a four-game multi-point streak.

Defenseman Rankings:

Torey Krug

Dustin Byfuglien

Thomas Chabot

Jeff Petry

Shea Weber

Sami Vatanen

Krug is playing in his third game in four days, so I'm a bit concerned about fatigue, but at the same time, he had three points yesterday.  Chabot is a similar danger in terms of fatigue, but is coming off a two-point contest.

Goalie Rankings:

Connor Hellebuyck

Jake Allen

John Gibson

Hellebuyck has struggled this season with a 2.88 GAA and .907 save percentage in 22 starts, but he has surrendered just a goal in each of his last two games.  Hopefully he can build off that.

Now, let’s also look at some players to consider for FanDuel and DraftKings.

Keep in mind that FanDuel allows you to roster nine players (2C, 4W, 2D, 1G) with a salary cap of $55,000, while DraftKings has a cap of $50,000 for nine players (2C, 3W, 2D, 1G, 1UTIL).

Nico Hischier (NJD) – C - $5,500 FanDuel, $5,000 DraftKings

Artem Anisimov (CHI) – C - $4,200 FanDuel, $4,000 DraftKings

Jonathan Drouin (MON) – W - $5,800 FanDuel, $6,400 DraftKings

Artturi Lehkonen (MON) – W - $4,300 FanDuel, $5,400 DraftKings

Pontus Aberg (ANA) – W - $3,700 FanDuel, $5,100 DraftKings

Darnell Nurse (EDM) – D - $4,100 FanDuel, $4,200 DraftKings

Aberg is a particularly interesting choice among the cheap players today after scoring three goals and seven points in his last six games.  Lehkonen is also particularly hot with three goals and five points in five games.
