NHL Plays: Friday

Updated On: January 11, 2020, 11:18 am ET

NHL Plays will highlight the best and the most underrated daily fantasy options among forwards, defensemen and goaltenders.

Please note, these players were chosen early in the day, so make sure to check Rotoworld’s player news for any lineup changes, injuries and potential changes in the crease for starting goaltenders.

Additionally, it is worth reminding everyone that FanDuel allows you to roster nine players (2C, 4W, 2D, 1G) with a salary cap of $55,000, while DraftKings has a cap of $50,000 for nine players (2C, 3W, 2D, 1G, 1UTIL) and Yahoo has a $200 budget for nine players (2C, 3W, 2D, 2G).

Friday night has three games scheduled.

Forwards:

Evgeni Malkin (PIT) – C - $8,400 FanDuel, $7,300 DraftKings, $32 Yahoo

Malkin has only been held off the scoresheet in back-to-back games he appeared in once this season and that was back on Oct. 5th and then when he returned from injury on Nov. 2nd. More recently, he’s recorded at least a point in 11 of his last 13 games. That consistency has resulted in him scoring 12 goals and 40 points despite being limited to 30 games.

Dylan Larkin (DET) – C - $6,600 FanDuel, $6,500 DraftKings, $21 Yahoo

Larkin has recorded at least a point in four straight games and has only been held off the scoresheet once in his last six contests. That gives him 10 goals and 28 points in 44 games.

Bryan Rust (PIT) – W - $5,700 FanDuel, $7,100 DraftKings, $26 Yahoo

Rust has only been held off the scoresheet once in his last seven games. Given what he’s done this season, he’s priced extremely well in FanDuel. He has 17 goals and 35 points in 29 contests this season.

Bargain Bin: Tyler Bertuzzi (DET) - $4,800 FanDuel/$6,100 DraftKings/$16 Yahoo, J.T. Compher (COL) - $4,800 FanDuel/$3,000 DraftKings/$17 Yahoo, Derek Stepan (ARI) - $4,800 FanDuel/$3,600 DraftKings/$17 Yahoo.

Defensemen:

Dougie Hamilton (CAR) – D - $6,200 FanDuel, $7,000 DraftKings, $26 Yahoo

Hamilton is a decent grab in all leagues, but he’s particularly valuable right now in FanDuel given his price point. He’s been one of the league’s top offensive defensemen this season with 14 goals and 39 points in 43 games.

Cale Makar (COL) – D - $5,300 FanDuel, $5,500 DraftKings, $23 Yahoo

Makar has been good, but not great lately with a goal and three points in his last six games. Even still, at his current price he’s a really nice gamble. He’s having an amazing rookie campaign with nine goals and 32 points in 36 contests.

Bargain Bin: Oliver Ekman-Larsson (ARI) - $5,200 FanDuel/$5,000 DraftKings/$18 Yahoo, Samuel Girard (COL) - $4,600 FanDuel/$4,000 DraftKings/$18 Yahoo.

Goaltenders:

Jonathan Bernier (DET) - $7,200 FanDuel, $7,800 DraftKings, $33 Yahoo

This is one of those days where I’m not terribly excited about any of the goaltending options. Bernier has been mediocre with a 9-12-2 record, 3.04 GAA, and .903 save percentage in 27 contests this season. He’s been solid lately though, allowing eight goals over his last four starts and he’ll be up against the lowly Ottawa Senators. Plus he’s a fairly cheap option, making him a more palatable gamble.

Bargain Bin: Marcus Hogberg (OTT) - $7,100 FanDuel/$7,400 DraftKings/$24 Yahoo.
