by Ryan Dadoun
Updated On: August 7, 2020, 11:00 am ET

NHL Plays will highlight the best and the most underrated daily fantasy options among forwards, defensemen and goaltenders.

Please note, these players were chosen early in the day, so make sure to check Rotoworld’s player news for any lineup changes, injuries and potential changes in the crease for starting goaltenders.

Additionally, it is worth reminding everyone that FanDuel allows you to roster nine players (2C, 4W, 2D, 1G) with a salary cap of $55,000, while DraftKings has a cap of $50,000 for nine players (2C, 3W, 2D, 1G, 1UTIL) and Yahoo has a $200 budget for nine players (2C, 3W, 2D, 2G).

Friday’s slate has six games scheduled with the first starting at 12:00 pm ET, though DraftKings is only including the later five contests in its classic mode.

Connor McDavid (Edmonton Oilers) – C - $8,700 FanDuel, $8,600 DraftKings, $35 Yahoo

McDavid has been outstanding in the 2020 playoffs with five goals and seven points in three contests. It remains to be seen if the Oilers can bounce back and avoid elimination on Friday, but whether they’re successful or not, McDavid shouldn’t go down without a fight.

Sidney Crosby (Pittsburgh Penguins) – C - $8,300 FanDuel, $7,000 DraftKings, $34 Yahoo

In some ways, this is a similar situation to McDavid. Crosby is a superstar forward looking to avoid elimination against a team that entered the series as an underdog. Crosby is a less attractive option than McDavid, in large part because Crosby will be up against Canadiens goaltender Carey Price, but the discounted price helps compensate for that. Especially in DraftKings, Crosby is an option worth considering today.

Patrick Kane (Chicago Blackhawks) – W - $8,100 FanDuel, $7,800 DraftKings, $32 Yahoo

Kane has been an effective option for the Blackhawks in the qualifying round with a goal and four points in three contests. The Oilers have their backs against the walls going into Game 4 on Friday, so they’re likely to come out strong, but their defense and goaltending is lacking. Even if the Oilers are able to win this game, it wouldn’t be surprising if some Chicago players, such as Kane, end up providing their money’s worth.

Mitchell Marner (Toronto Maple Leafs) – W - $7,400 FanDuel, $6,800 DraftKings, $26 Yahoo

This is definitely a dice roll of a pick. Marner has just one assists in three games so far in the playoffs. Still, after taking some heat, with high expectations on him due to his contract, and with the Maple Leafs on the brink of elimination from the qualifying round, I feel like Marner is due. The stakes are high for both the team and him personally. I think he rises to the occasion.

Bargain Bin: Jake Guentzel (PIT) - $7,300 FanDuel/$6,500 DraftKings/$29 Yahoo, Ryan Nugent-Hopkins (EDM) - $7,200 FanDuel/$7,200 DraftKings/$28 Yahoo, Kevin Fiala (MIN) - $7,000 FanDuel/$6,700 DraftKings/$21 Yahoo, Jonathan Toews (CHI) - $6,700 FanDuel/$5,800 DraftKings/$24 Yahoo, Viktor Arvidsson (NAS) - $5,900 FanDuel/$4,500 DraftKings/$17 Yahoo.

Duncan Keith (Chicago Blackhawks) - $5,300 FanDuel, $4,800 DraftKings, $18 Yahoo

Keith has been effective in the qualifying round with three assists in three playoff games. He’s not the offensive juggernaut that he once was, but he’s not priced like that anymore either. He’s a fairly discount option and that price point makes him really appealing for Friday’s action.

Bargain Bin: Shea Weber (MON) - $5,200 FanDuel/$5,200 DraftKings/$21 Yahoo, Quinn Hughes (VAN) - $5,200 FanDuel/$5,000 DraftKings/$19 Yahoo, Jeff Petry (MON) - $4,800 FanDuel/$4,200 DraftKings/$17 Yahoo.

Semyon Varlamov (New York Islanders) - $8,300 FanDuel, $30 Yahoo

The Islanders couldn’t complete their sweep of Florida on Wednesday, but there’s a fair chance they’ll be able to close out the series today. Varlamov has been a major part of the Islanders’ success in the series with a 2.03 GAA and .923 save percentage in three starts. Note that he’s not available in classic mode of DraftKings because of the 12:00 pm ET start time, but the Islanders-Panthers game is available if you play Showdown or Tier modes.

Bargain Bin: Darcy Kuemper (ARI) - $7,800 FanDuel/$7,400 DraftKings/$32 Yahoo, Jacob Markstrom (VAN) - $7,800 FanDuel/$7,800 DraftKings/$32 Yahoo.
