NHL Plays will highlight the best and the most underrated daily fantasy options among forwards, defensemen and goaltenders.
Please note, these players were chosen early in the day, so make sure to check Rotoworld’s player news for any lineup changes, injuries and potential changes in the crease for starting goaltenders.
Additionally, it is worth reminding everyone that FanDuel allows you to roster nine players (2C, 4W, 2D, 1G) with a salary cap of $55,000, while DraftKings has a cap of $50,000 for nine players (2C, 3W, 2D, 1G, 1UTIL) and Yahoo has a $200 budget for nine players (2C, 3W, 2D, 2G).
Friday has two games scheduled with the first contest starting at 4pm EST.
Nathan MacKinnon (Colorado) – C - $8,800 FanDuel, $8,500 DraftKings, $36 Yahoo
MacKinnon is expensive, but he’s worth it. He’s been having an amazing playoff run with nine goals and 25 points in 14 contests. That gives him a clear lead in the postseason scoring race. The next best player is Mikko Rantanen, who has 20 points in 14 contests. At this point, the talk has shifted from MacKinnon winning the playoff scoring race to if MacKinnon can beat Wayne Gretzky’s playoff scoring record, though in order for MacKinnon to have a shot at that, the Avalanche need to win Game 7 today.
Mikko Rantanen (Colorado) – W - $8,000 FanDuel, $6,800 DraftKings, $30 Yahoo
If MacKinnon is too rich for your tastes or you really want to lean on the Avalanche, then grabbing Rantanen is a good choice. It certainly helps that MacKinnon and Rantanen are often on the ice together, but Rantanen is also a rising star in his own right.
J.T. Miller (Vancouver) – W - $7,100 FanDuel, $5,700 DraftKings, $24 Yahoo
Miller is one of the hottest players in the league going into Friday’s action. He’s scored a goal and seven points in his last three contests alone. That gives him six goals and 18 points in 16 playoff games this year.
Bargain Bin: Denis Gurianov (DAL) - $5,400 FanDuel/$4,500 DraftKings/$17 Yahoo, Andre Burakovsky (COL) - $5,200 FanDuel/$4,600 DraftKings/$19 Yahoo, Roope Hintz (DAL) - $4,200 FanDuel/$3,900 DraftKings/$18 Yahoo.

Shea Theodore (Vegas) - $6,500 FanDuel, $6,400 DraftKings, $25 Yahoo
Theodore wasn’t on the scoresheet Thursday, but before that he was on a seven-game point streak. He’s up to five goals and 15 points in 14 postseason games.
Miro Heiskanen (Dallas) - $6,000 FanDuel, $5,300 DraftKings, $18 Yahoo
While I’ve been leaning heavily on the Avalanche with today’s recommendations, if you’re thinking of betting on the Stars, then Heiskanen should be a big part of that plan. He’s been one of their best players in the playoffs and is going into Friday’s action on a seven-game point streak. He has five goals and 19 points in 15 postseason contests.
Bargain Bin: Cale Makar (COL) - $5,600 FanDuel/$5,800 DraftKings/$23 Yahoo, Quinn Hughes (VAN) - $5,500 FanDuel/$4,700 DraftKings/$19 Yahoo, Samuel Girard (COL) - $4,600 FanDuel/$3,400 DraftKings/$16 Yahoo.
Michael Hutchinson (Colorado) - $8,100 FanDuel, $8,100 DraftKings, $24 Yahoo
Hutchinson has been a great story, but really choosing him today has a lot less to do with his recent success and more to do with a lack of options. The Canucks and Golden Knights played on Thursday, so I’m hesitant to go with a goaltender in that game. It’s not even clear who Vegas will start and while Thatcher Demko will almost certainly be in net for Vancouver, fatigue will be a concern as he starts for the third time in four days, especially given that he’s faced a staggering 91 shots over that span. So if I’m limiting myself to a goaltender from the Avalanche-Stars game, then I’d rather bet on Hutchinson than against the Avalanche’s offense. That said, there is no safe bet in net today.
Bargain Bin: Thatcher Demko (VAN) - $7,600 FanDuel/$7,900 DraftKings/$27 Yahoo.
