NHL Plays: Friday

by Ryan Dadoun
Updated On: October 11, 2019, 6:34 am ET

NHL Plays will highlight the best and the most underrated daily fantasy options among forwards, defensemen and goaltenders.

Please note, these players were chosen early in the day, so make sure to check Rotoworld’s player news for any lineup changes, injuries and potential changes in the crease for starting goaltenders.

Additionally, it is worth reminding everyone that FanDuel allows you to roster nine players (2C, 4W, 2D, 1G) with a salary cap of $55,000, while DraftKings has a cap of $50,000 for nine players (2C, 3W, 2D, 1G, 1UTIL).

There’s only three games on Friday and they are all 7:00 p.m. ET or 7:30 p.m. ET starts.

Forwards:

Mike Hoffman (FLA) – W - $7,400 FanDuel, $7,000 DraftKings

Hoffman couldn’t have asked for a better start to the season.  He’s scored four goals and six points in three contests.  Hoffman has registered at least a point in all three of those contests and is coming off a campaign where he set a new career-high with 70 points.

Erik Haula (CAR) – C – $5,200 FanDuel, $4,700 DraftKings

Carolina seems to suit Haula well.  He already has three goals in four contests with the Hurricanes.  It helps that he’s averaging 17:55 minutes per game, which would be a career-high for him if this lasts for the full campaign.

Anthony Beauvillier (NYI) – W – $5,100 FanDuel, $4,600 DraftKings

Beauvillier wasn’t much of an offensive contributor in his first three NHL seasons, but he’s gotten off to a strong start in 2019-20 with two goals and four points in three games.  It helps that he’s averaging 15:36 minutes, which is a jump from 14:39 minutes last season.

Marcus Johansson (BUF) – C - $5,000 FanDuel, $4,200 DraftKings

Speaking of players who have started out hot on a new team, Johansson has two goals and four points in four games with the Sabres.  He’s been skating alongside Jeff Skinner, who had 40 goals in 2018-19 and has picked up where he left off with another three goals and four points in Buffalo’s first four contests.

Bargain Bin: Jeff Skinner (BUF) – W - $7,700 (FanDuel)/$7,300 (DraftKings), Victor Olofsson – W - $6,400 (FanDuel)/$6,800 (DraftKings), Jordan Staal (CAR) – C – $5,800 (FanDuel)/$4,100 (DraftKings), Andrei Svechnikov – W - $5,400 (FanDuel)/$5,700 (DraftKings)

Defensemen:

Dougie Hamilton (CAR) – D - $5,500 FanDuel, $6,300 DraftKings

Hamilton is more of a value pick in FanDuel than DraftKings, but he’s good on both sites.  He’s scored two goals and five points in four games this season and has only been held off the scoresheet in one contest.  He’s also averaging 23:00 minutes, up from 19:40 minutes in 2018-19 when he finished with 39 points.

Bargain Bin: Jaccob Slavin - $4,800 (FanDuel)/$5,500 (DraftKings), Colin Miller - $4,000 (FanDuel)/$4,100 (DraftKings), Brendan Guhle - $3,500 (FanDuel)/$3,000 (DraftKings)

Goaltenders:

Ryan Miller (ANA) – G - $8,000 FanDuel, $7,300 DraftKings

Of course, you’ll need to verify that Miller is the starter tonight, but if he is then he’s a pretty good gamble.  After losing key players over the summer, Anaheim’s opponent, Columbus, isn’t that intimidating a team offensively and they certainly haven’t started out well up front.  The Blue Jackets are averaging 2.33 goals per game so far.

Bargain Bin: Petr Mrazek - $7,800 (FanDuel)/$8,000 (DraftKings)
