NHL Plays: January 14

DRAFT is back for another season of quick and exciting daily fantasy action. Their DFS platform offers poolies with a chance to participate in a format that most of us have grown very accustomed to over the years. You can compete in a live snake draft in which the participants take a player with each pick. Unlike other DFS games, this gives you the opportunity to use your knowledge to craft a team that no one else will have because the players you select cannot be chosen by your competition.

The draft is quick as you are allotted just 30 seconds per pick and you take five players. Your team is comprised of three forwards, a defenseman and a goalie.

Your strategy can be dictated by the positions being selected ahead of you. For instance, if you are going last and everyone else has a goaltender then you can wait until your last pick to make that selection. Of course, selecting players going up against weaker competition or players who are riding hot streaks are always popular strategies as well.

Forward Rankings

1. Connor McDavid

2. Nathan MacKinnon

3. Mikko Rantanen

4. Mitch Marner

5. Alex Ovechkin

6. John Tavares

7. Leon Draisaitl

8. David Pastrnak

9. Auston Matthews

10. Patrice Bergeron

11. Jack Eichel

12. Jeff Skinner

13. Brad Marchand

14. Patrick Kane

15. Gabriel Landeskog

16. Sam Reinhart

17. Kyle Palmieri

18. Claude Giroux

As I state usually, try to combine a line if you can, or at least two-thirds of one. McDavid as always, should go first and if you are able to get Draisaitl as well, you have done okay. The MacKinnon-Rantanen-Landeskog line is a great one as is the Pastrnak-Bergeron-Marchand trio. Marner and Tavares have been great together. Eichel and Skinner are another duo if you are in a six-team draft.

Defenseman Rankings

1. Morgan Rielly

2. John Carlson

3. Torey Krug

4. Shea Weber

5. Erik Gustafsson

6. Tyson Barrie

All are good blueliners and while I would consider taking Rielly or Carlson early, it’s not essential, especially if you are looking to complete your forwards. Gustafsson is a sneaky pick as he has an eight-game points streak with 11 assists.

Goaltending Rankings

1. Tuukka Rask

2. Frederik Andersen

3. Devan Dubnyk

4. Mackenzie Blackwood

5. Pheonix Copley

6. Cam Talbot

Rask has been a stud of late, winning his last five starts in a row while giving up only seven goals on 154 shots. Andersen returns after a three-week absence from a groin injury and faces the Avs at home. Dubnyk and Copley are good plays as well. Take Rask early but you can wait on a goalie otherwise, especially in three or four player drafts.

Check with Rotoworld regularly today to make sure the probable goalies are definitely starting.

Keep in mind that FanDuel allows you to roster nine players (2C, 4W, 2D, 1G) with a salary cap of $55,000, while DraftKings has a cap of $50,000 for nine players (2C, 3W, 2D, 1G, 1UTIL).

Pheonix Copley (Washington) - G - $7,800 FanDuel, $8,000 DraftKings

Erik Gustafsson (Chicago) – D - $5,200 FanDuel, $5,00 DraftKings

Ryan Suter (Minnesota) – D - $ 4,300 FanDuel, $4,800 DraftKings

Leon Draisaitl (Edmonton) - W - $6,800 FanDuel, $6,800 DraftKings

Blake Coleman (New Jersey) – W - $4,400 FanDuel, $5,200 DraftKings

Brayden Schenn (St. Louis) - C - $5,300 FanDuel, $4,500 DraftKings

There are good bargains here to add to your team so you are able to take McDavid and a Mitch Marner. Copley is a value pick with the Capitals taking on the Blues in Washington. The Devils are a very good home team and that makes Coleman a nice selection. Gustafsson has been a gem on the blueline for Chicago as he now quarterbacks the top power play. He has seven power play assists in the last three weeks. Suter is always a good pick. Draisaitl is undervalued.
