NHL Plays: November 25

by Michael Finewax

DRAFT is back for another season of quick and exciting daily fantasy action. Their DFS platform offers poolies with a chance to participate in a format that most of us have grown very accustomed to over the years. You can compete in a live snake draft in which the participants take a player with each pick. Unlike other DFS games, this gives you the opportunity to use your knowledge to craft a team that no one else will have because the players you select cannot be chosen by your competition.

The draft is quick as you are allotted just 30 seconds per pick and you take five players. Your team is comprised of three forwards, a defenseman and a goalie.

Your strategy can be dictated by the positions being selected ahead of you. For instance, if you are going last and everyone else has a goaltender then you can wait until your last pick to make that selection. Of course, selecting players going up against weaker competition or players who are riding hot streaks are always popular strategies as well.

Forward Rankings

Connor McDavid

Nikita Kucherov

Johnny Gaudreau

Filip Forsberg

Leon Draisaitl

Brayden Point

Sean Monahan

Steven Stamkos

Matthew Tkachuk

Elias Lindholm

Taylor Hall

Kyle Palmieri

As usual, Connor McDavid is a no-brainer. If you can get Draisaitl on the way back, grab him if you have McDavid. Going after the entire Calgary line of Gaudreau, Monahan and Lindholm, also makes sense of you do not have the first pick. Picking the Tampa Bay trio of Kucherov, Point and Stamkos is also a good idea.

Defenseman Rankings

Roman Josi

Victor Hedman

Mark Giordano

Drew Doughty

The first three blueliners can be trusted and if you are in a four-player draft, wait until the final round if Doughty is the last defenseman available.

Goaltending Rankings

Pekka Rinne

Louis Domingue

Mike Smith

Cam Talbot

Rinne is among the best goalies in the NHL and Domingue has a great Tampa Bay team in front of him. Smith returns to Arizona and takes on his former teammates while Talbot has something to prove in front of new head coach Ken Hitchcock.

Keep in mind that FanDuel allows you to roster nine players (2C, 4W, 2D, 1G) with a salary cap of $55,000, while DraftKings has a cap of $50,000 for nine players (2C, 3W, 2D, 1G, 1UTIL).

Cam Talbot (Edmonton) - G - $7,700 FanDuel, $7,800 DraftKings

Damon Severson (New Jersey) - D - $4,200 FanDuel, $4,400 DraftKings

Ryan McDonagh (Tampa Bay) - D - $4,800 FanDuel, $5,300 DraftKings

Alex Galchenyuk (Arizona) - C - $5,300 FanDuel

Ondrej Kase (Anaheim) - W - $4,000 FanDuel, $4,700 DraftKings

Matthew Tkachuk (Calgary) - W - $6,400 FanDuel

Ryan Spooner (Edmonton) – W-  $3,600 FanDuel, $3,400 DraftKings

If you are looking for some bargains in addition to some big-name players (McDavid and Kucherov) Spooner is a nice pick as he is playing alongside McDavid. Tkachuk actually leads the Flames in scoring despite having Gaudreau on his team. Kase has been seeing time on the first line with Ryan Getzlaf and Rickard Rakell. Galchenyuk has played well since his return from injury. McDonagh has been hot of late.
