NHL Plays: November 30

by Ryan Dadoun

DRAFT is back for another season of quick and exciting daily fantasy action. Their DFS platform offers poolies with a chance to participate in a format that most of us have grown very accustomed to over the years. You can compete in a live snake draft in which the participants take a player with each pick. Unlike other DFS games, this gives you the opportunity to use your knowledge to craft a team that no one else will have because the players you select cannot be chosen by your competition.

The draft is quick as you are allotted just 30 seconds per pick and you take five players. Your team is comprised of three forwards, a defenseman and a goalie.

Your strategy can be dictated by the positions being selected ahead of you. For instance, if you are going last and everyone else has a goaltender then you can wait until your last pick to make that selection. Of course, selecting players going up against weaker competition or players who are riding hot streaks are always popular strategies as well.

Remember, there are new pools available to play in but the players in my rankings will fall off the table as soon as the puck drops in their respective game.

Familiarize yourself with the rues and enjoy! It’s a great game! Wednesday’s five-game slate features four-person and plenty of three-person drafts. There are also head-to-heads to participate in.

Forward Rankings:

Mikko Rantanen

Nathan MacKinnon

Alex Ovechkin

Jack Eichel

Tom Wilson

Dustin Brown

Taylor Hall

Gabriel Landeskog

Vladimir Tarasenko

Nicklas Backstrom

Mike Hoffman

Rantanen and MacKinnon have been unreal all season and are showing no signs of slowing down. Rantanen specifically has eight multi-point games in his last nine contests. Wilson has also been fantastic since returning from his suspension with six goals and 12 points in eight games.

Defenseman Rankings:

Rasmus Ristolainen

John Carlson

Drew Doughty

Mark Giordano

Dougie Hamilton

Justin Faulk

Keith Yandle

Alex Pietrangelo

Pietrangelo got off to a bland start to the season, but he's scored a goal and four points in his last three games, making him one of the hottest defensive options available today.

Goalie Rankings:

Curtis McElhinney

Braden Holtby

Semyon Varlamov

It feels weird to see McElhinney of all people at the top of the list, but he's been just that good this season.  He's 7-2-0 with a 2.12 GAA and .930 save percentage and has allowed just five goals over his last four starts.

Now, let’s also look at some players to consider for FanDuel and DraftKings.

Keep in mind that FanDuel allows you to roster nine players (2C, 4W, 2D, 1G) with a salary cap of $55,000, while DraftKings has a cap of $50,000 for nine players (2C, 3W, 2D, 1G, 1UTIL).

Adam Henrique (ANA) – C – FanDuel $4,600, DraftKings $3,600

Carl Soderberg (COL) – C – FanDuel $4,300, DraftKings $4,700

Mike Hoffman (FLA) – W – FanDuel $6,600, DraftKings $6,700

Tom Wilson (WAS) – W – FanDuel $5,200, DraftKings $6,800

Rasmus Ristolainen (BUF) – D – FanDuel $4,700, DraftKings $5,300

Curtis McElhinney (CAR) – G – FanDuel $7,500, DraftKings $7,700

Wilson is so cheap in FanDuel right now relative to how he’s done so far.  In terms of bargain bin characters, Henrique has stood out lately with two goals and six points in his last seven games.
