NHL Plays: Saturday

by Ryan Dadoun
Updated On: December 14, 2019, 1:17 pm ET

NHL Plays will highlight the best and the most underrated daily fantasy options among forwards, defensemen and goaltenders.

Please note, these players were chosen early in the day, so make sure to check Rotoworld’s player news for any lineup changes, injuries and potential changes in the crease for starting goaltenders.

Additionally, it is worth reminding everyone that FanDuel allows you to roster nine players (2C, 4W, 2D, 1G) with a salary cap of $55,000, while DraftKings has a cap of $50,000 for nine players (2C, 3W, 2D, 1G, 1UTIL) and Yahoo has a $200 budget for nine players (2C, 3W, 2D, 2G).

There are 13 games on Saturday, though I will be focusing on the nine evening contests in this article.

Forwards:

Steven Stamkos (TBL) – W/C - $8,500 FanDuel, $6,500 DraftKings, $27 Yahoo

Stamkos is listed as a winger on FanDuel and DraftKings, but a center on Yahoo. Either way, he’s on a four-game goal scoring streak and has recorded at least a point in five of his last six games. He’s up to 13 goals and 29 points in 27 games this season.

Patrice Bergeron (BOS) – C - $8,100 FanDuel, $7,500 DraftKings, $32 Yahoo

Bergeron has been red hot for a while now, recording at least a point in 12 of his last 14 contests. He’s scored 10 goals and 26 points in 24 games in 2019-20. It also doesn’t hurt that Boston will be up against Florida tonight, which has been pretty bad defensively this season.

Jake Guentzel (PIT) – W - $8,000 FanDuel, $7,500 DraftKings, $28 Yahoo

Guentzel is going into Saturday’s action on a four-game point streak. He broke out last season with 76 points and is well on his way to playing at roughly that level again in 2019-20. He has 17 goals and 33 points in 32 contests.

Mitchell Marner (TOR) – W - $7,700 FanDuel, $6,100 DraftKings, $26 Yahoo

The Maple Leafs should be a pretty motivated team after their late collapse to the Flames in their last contest. That should boost the team overall, but even if it doesn’t, Marner’s been very effective lately anyways. He’s riding a three-game multi-point streak. He’s up to five goals and 24 points in 22 games this season.

Brendan Gallagher (MON) – W - $7,600 FanDuel, $6,700 DraftKings, $23 Yahoo

Gallagher has recorded at least a point in each of his last five contests. That gives him 14 goals and 26 points in 32 games this season. The Canadiens are going to be facing the lowly Detroit Red Wings tonight.

Alex DeBrincat (CHI) – W - $6,100 FanDuel, $5,600 DraftKings, $21 Yahoo

DeBrincat endured a pretty shaky start to the season. He had three goals and seven points in his first 12 games, which isn’t terrible, but he had been held off the scoresheet in eight of those 12 contests. Since then he’s been more consistent and has recorded a point in four of his last five games. He has eight goals and 23 points in 32 contests in 2019-20.

Bargain Bin: Ryan Nugent-Hopkins (EDM) - $6,200 FanDuel/$4,500 DraftKings/$18 Yahoo, Tomas Tatar (MON) - $6,100 FanDuel/$5,800 DraftKings/$17 Yahoo, Mike Hoffman (FLA) - $5,900 FanDuel/$5,200 DraftKings/$20 Yahoo, Clayton Keller (ARI) - $5,900 FanDuel/$5,200 DraftKings/$18 Yahoo, Phillip Danault (MON) - $5,500 FanDuel/$5,300 DraftKings/$17 Yahoo, Nick Schmaltz (ARI) - $4,900 FanDuel/$3,800 DraftKings/$16 Yahoo

Defensemen:

Shea Weber (MON) – $6,900 FanDuel, $6,800 DraftKings, $24 Yahoo

As mentioned with Gallagher, Montreal will be up against Detroit tonight, so I like the Canadiens in general. Weber has been particularly effective lately, chipping in three points over his last two games. That gives him 10 goals and 26 points in 32 contests.

Alex Pietrangelo (STL) - $6,000 FanDuel, $5,800 DraftKings, $21 Yahoo

Pietrangelo is on a three-game point streak and has recorded a point in four of his last five contests. He’s up to seven goals and 23 points in 33 games, which is pretty solid for his price point.

Bargain Bin: Drew Doughty (LAK) - $5,800 FanDuel/$4,700 DraftKings/$18 Yahoo, Shayne Gostisbehere (PHI) - $4,500 FanDuel/$4,100 DraftKings/$16 Yahoo, Dmitry Orlov (WAS) - $4,400 FanDuel/$3,300 DraftKings/$13 Yahoo, Darnell Nurse (EDM) - $4,100 FanDuel/$4,300 DraftKings/$17 Yahoo

Goaltenders:

Andrei Vasilevskiy (TBL) - $9,000 FanDuel, $7,700 DraftKings, $29 Yahoo

Normally I’d balk at taking Vasilevskiy against a high-powered offense like Washington, but he’s been red hot lately. He’s won his last three games while allowing just four goals over that span. With that, Vasilevskiy improved to 13-8-1 with a 2.78 GAA and .910 save percentage in 22 games this season.

Darcy Kuemper (ARI) - $8,800 FanDuel, $8,300 DraftKings, $42 Yahoo

I wouldn’t recommend taking Kuemper in Yahoo, but in DraftKings and FanDuel, he’s a pretty solid option. He’s been amazing this season with a 14-6-2 recod, 1.97 GAA, and .935 save percentage in 22 games. He’s also been very effective lately, allowing just eight goals over his last four starts, which have all been wins. The Coyotes will face the lowly New Jersey Devils on Saturday.

Bargain Bin: Carey Price (MON) - $8,500 FanDuel/$8,100 DraftKings/$28 Yahoo, Tristan Jarry (PIT) - $8,100 FanDuel/$8,400 DraftKings/$38 Yahoo, Jacob Markstrom (VAN) - $7,500 FanDuel/$7,500 DraftKings/$28 Yahoo, Jonathan Quick (LAK) - $7,400 FanDuel/$7,00 DraftKings/$26 Yahoo
