NHL Plays: Saturday

by Ryan Dadoun
Updated On: February 29, 2020, 7:13 pm ET

NHL Plays will highlight the best and the most underrated daily fantasy options among forwards, defensemen and goaltenders.

Please note, these players were chosen early in the day, so make sure to check Rotoworld’s player news for any lineup changes, injuries and potential changes in the crease for starting goaltenders.

Additionally, it is worth reminding everyone that FanDuel allows you to roster nine players (2C, 4W, 2D, 1G) with a salary cap of $55,000, while DraftKings has a cap of $50,000 for nine players (2C, 3W, 2D, 1G, 1UTIL) and Yahoo has a $200 budget for nine players (2C, 3W, 2D, 2G).

There are 12 games on Saturday, but I’ll be focusing on the eight evening contests.

Sebastian Aho (CAR) – C - $7,900 FanDuel, $7,400 DraftKings, $28 Yahoo

Aho registered two assists on Friday to extend his point streak to an incredible 14 games. He’s scored 12 goals and 21 points over that span. That brings him up to 36 goals and 62 points in 63 contests.

Jamie Benn (DAL) – W - $7,400 FanDuel, $4,700 DraftKings, $18 Yahoo

Benn is particularly interesting in DraftKings, where he comes at a pretty low price. He hasn’t been particularly great this season, at least by his former standards. He has 19 goals and 37 points in 64 contests. That said, he’s hot right now with at least a point in four straight games and five of his last six contests.

Mark Scheifele (WPG) – C - $7,200 FanDuel, $6,500 DraftKings, $25 Yahoo

Scheifele is on a six-game point streak, scoring five goals and 11 points over that span. He’s up to 28 goals and 70 points in 66 contests this season. This is the third time in four campaigns that he’s reached the 70-point milestone.

Ryan Nugent-Hopkins (EDM) – C - $6,800 FanDuel, $5,800 DraftKings, $20 Yahoo

Nugent-Hopkins has only been held off the scoresheet twice in his last 10 games. He’s been pretty consistent for a while, even before his most recent hot streak. You’d have to go back to Dec. 14-20 to find the last time he was pointless for more than two straight games. He has 18 goals and 50 points in 58 contests this season.

William Nylander (TOR) – W - $6,600 FanDuel, $6,200 DraftKings, $22 Yahoo

Nylander has been a consistent contributor for a while, recording at least a point in 16 of his last 18 games. He’s up to 29 goals and 57 points in 63 contests. At this point, he’s expected to comfortably surpass his career-high in points of 61.

Bargain Bin: Tomas Tatar (MON) - $6,500 FanDuel/$5,300 DraftKings/$18 Yahoo, J.T. Miller (VAN) - $6,400 FanDuel/$5,600 DraftKings/$24 Yahoo, Tyler Toffoli (VAN) - $5,800 FanDuel/$6,300 DraftKings/$19 Yahoo, Jaden Schwartz (STL) - $5,700 FanDuel/$5,200 DraftKings/$18 Yahoo, Patric Hornqvist (PIT) - $5,400 FanDuel/$5,400 DraftKings/$18 Yahoo

Quinn Hughes (VAN) - $5,300 FanDuel, $5,400 DraftKings, $20 Yahoo

Hughes is on a five-game point streak and has recorded at least a point in eight of his last nine contests. He has eight goals and 51 points in 62 games in 2019-20. He’s leading all rookies in points this season and already has more points than any rookie defenseman in the salary cap era.

Bargain Bin: Thomas Chabot (OTT) - $5,200 FanDuel/$5,800 DraftKings/$18 Yahoo, Jaccob Slavin (CAR) - $5,000 FanDuel/$4,700 DraftKings/$19 Yahoo

Jordan Binnington (STL) - $8,600 FanDuel, $8,300 DraftKings, $25 Yahoo

Binnington has allowed two or fewer goals in five of his last six starts. He’s had some significant low points this season, but he’s averaged out to be solid. He has a 29-11-7 record, 2.60 GAA, and .910 save percentage in 47 contests.

Tristan Jarry (PIT) - $8,500 FanDuel, $8,000 DraftKings, $35 Yahoo

I’d take Binnington over Jarry in Yahoo, but other than that they’re both strong options. Jarry has surrendered two or fewer goals in four of his last five starts. He’s going into Saturday’s action with a 20-10-1 record, 2.23 GAA, and .927 save percentage in 31 games. He’ll be up against the Sharks tonight, which aren’t exactly the most intimidating of teams this season.

Bargain Bin: Antti Raanta (ARI) - $8,300 FanDuel/$8,100 DraftKings/$31 Yahoo, Pekka Rinne (NAS) - $7,500 FanDuel/$7,700 DraftKings/$23 Yahoo
