Updated On: January 5, 2020, 10:59 am ET

NHL Plays will highlight the best and the most underrated daily fantasy options among forwards, defensemen and goaltenders.

Please note, these players were chosen early in the day, so make sure to check Rotoworld’s player news for any lineup changes, injuries and potential changes in the crease for starting goaltenders.

Additionally, it is worth reminding everyone that FanDuel allows you to roster nine players (2C, 4W, 2D, 1G) with a salary cap of $55,000, while DraftKings has a cap of $50,000 for nine players (2C, 3W, 2D, 1G, 1UTIL). Yahoo has a $200 cap for nine players (2C, 3W, 2D, 2G).

Forwards

Evgeni Malkin (Pittsburgh) - C - $8,300 (FanDuel), $7,200 (DraftKings), $34 (Yahoo)

Malkin has been great this season when on the ice, unfortunately he has missed 13 games. Still, the center has 39 points in 28 games and is playing with Bryan Rust (see below) and Dominik Kahun, if you want the whole line today.

Patrick Kane (Chicago) – W - $8,400 (FanDuel), $7,500(DraftKings), $32 (Yahoo)

Kane, once again, has been a stud this season. He has 24 goals and 53 points in 42 games and has four goals and six points in his last two games. He also has two four-point games in his last seven, as well as a pair of two-point games. The Blackhawks face lowly Detroit at home tonight.

Andrei Svechnikov (Carolina) - W - $6,100 (FanDuel), $5,800(DraftKings), $24 (Yahoo)

The 19-year-old sophomore has taken his game to another level this season and has already surpassed last season’s 37 points in 82 games as he has 40 points in 41 games. Svechnikov has taken off on the power play as he has five goals and 15 points while picking up only five assists last season.

Bargain Bin:  Bryan Rust (Pittsburgh) - W - $5,700 (FanDuel), $6,600 (DraftKings), $26 (Yahoo), Craig Smith (Nashville) – W - $4,400 (FanDuel) $3,600 (DraftKings), $17 (Yahoo), Lucas Wallmark (Carolina) – C- $6,100 (FanDuel) $2,800 (DraftKings), $15 (Yahoo)

Defensemen:

Roman Josi (Nashville) - $6,800 (FanDuel), $7,000 (DraftKings), $28 (Yahoo)

Roman Josi has been on a roll like no other time in his NHL career as he has a nine-game points streak going, with seven goals and 17 points during the streak. He is all of a sudden challenging John Carlson for the lead among defensemen as Josi has 43 points in 40 games while Carlson has 51 points in 42 games.

Erik Gustafsson (Chicago) - $4,800 (FanDuel), $4,300 (DraftKings), $15 (Yahoo)

Gustafsson got off to a terrible start but has come on a bit of late with two goals and five assists in his last 11 games. The blueliner had 60 points last season and has only 17 in half a season thus far but he moving towards having a big second half.

Bargain Bin:

Hampus Lindholm (Anaheim) - $4,200 (FanDuel), $5,200 (DraftKings), $13 (Yahoo), Matt Dumba (Minnesota) - $3,600 (FanDuel), $6,400 (DraftKings), $18 (Yahoo)

Goaltenders:

David Rittich (Calgary) - $7,500 (FanDuel), $7,700 (DraftKings), $33 (Yahoo)

Rittich has had a couple of bad outings, especially two games ago when he gave up three goals on seven shots before being pulled 10:52 into the first period. But the whole body of his work this season has been very good as he is 17-10-5 with a 2.78 GAA and a .912 save percentage.

Bargain Bin:  Corey Crawford (Chicago) - $7,300 (FanDuel), $8,100 (DraftKings), $28 (Yahoo)
