Today we have a few veteran pitchers who haven’t been pitching well of late. Kyle Kendrick, Chris Young and Kevin Correia are three guys who I feel good targeting today. Correia has given up 35 earned runs in 48 innings this season with just 25 strikeouts. The Texas Rangers come into town not their normal high-powered selves, but they just put on a show in their last two games at Detroit when they scored 12 runs in each game. Production has also been coming from all over the lineup, so that means there should be some value plays in this juicy matchup.
Jose Bautista – TOR – There are quite a few Top Shelf plays this Memorial Day. I’ll have a longer list of others to consider than usual because it was difficult to narrow them down, but Bautista has just been destroying lefties this season to the tune of 1.348 OPS and six home runs in just 47 at bats.
Jimmy Rollins – PHI – Rollins has been hot of late and what are the odds they get no-hit two days in a row?! Really, they have to be astronomical. Rollins had been on a nice nine game streak before the no-hitter and hits lefties for more power than he does righties. I like the Phillies chance to have a nice bounceback game against Chacin who sports a 4.76 ERA and 1.46 WHIP so far this season along with a .909 OPS against righties.
Josh Donaldson – OAK – Donaldson is a lefty smasher and Smyly is a lefty. Smyly is also much worse against righties, giving up over a HR a game and a .326 wOBA. The Donald has been hot this season with 11 homers and 36 RBIs. I like his chances.
Also consider: Victor Martinez –DET, Paul Goldschmidt – ARI, Edwin Encarnacion – TOR, Miguel Cabrera – DET, David Ortiz – BOS, Ryan Braun – MIL, Garrett Jones – MIA, Ian Kinsler – DET, Seth Smith – SDP, Adam Jones – BAL, Adrian Beltre – TEX
Corey Dickerson – COL – I’m liking lefties against Kendrick today and Dickerson has been playing well of late with nine hits in his last 19 at bats including a home run. He’s being platooned for the most part and is hitting righties for a nice 1.057 OPS while Kendrick is giving up .952 OPS to lefties this season.
Justin Morneau – COL – I’m going with another lefty here against Kendrick. I’d of course rather have him in Coors Field, but Citizen’s Bank Park is also great for lefties, so I feel good about his chances today.
Adam Dunn – CWS – Dunn’s OBP is always good, and in FanDuel you don’t get an extra deduction for strikeouts, so he usually doesn’t go negative and when he is facing a lefty like today his OBP goes even higher along with his home run rate.
Mitch Moreland – TEX – Moreland now will get regular playing time with Fielder out and he’s been doing reasonably well with nine hits in his last seven games, including four doubles, a home run and eight RBIs. He faces a right-handed pitcher in Correia which is really who he should be platooning against since he can’t hit lefties and hits righties at a .300+ clip this season. He’s also had success in the past against Correia to help swing your favor.
Scooter Gennett – MIL – I like the Brewers to get to Tillman, but their right-handed heavy lineup has me reaching for the perfect matchup of a lefty and Gennett meets that goal. He hits righties for a great wOBA of .378 and he's puntably cheap.
Alex Gordon – KC – Gordon isn’t setting the world on fire, but he’s been playing consistently enough to anchor into your lineup at his price. The lefty takes on righty Scott Feldman who he has had success against in the past and also who his splits say he should have success against in the future. In his last seven games he has 10 hits and 10 RBIs even though one of those games was a two home run, six RBI output.
Michael Wacha – STL – Wacha is always tough in St. Louis and has been even tougher there this season with a 2.56 ERA and a 3-0 record. His price hasn’t hit elite status yet and he’s getting over a K an inning. I think he makes for one of the safer plays today.
Yordano Ventura – KC – It’s hard to target Houston at the moment because they have been playing better of late, but better for them is still middle of the road at best. Ventura has great stuff and even though he will be hit or miss sometimes, I like the matchup and that he is pitching at home.
Brandon McCarthy – ARI – McCarthy has had bad luck with his HR to fly ball rate, but has been pitching well otherwise. He gets the Padres today who are hitting a .276 wOBA against righties this season. For his price he really has nice upside today.
