Daily Forecast: Work Workman

Brandon Workman has had trouble this season and was sent to the bullpen due to that trouble. His last time pitching was in relief and he gave up a home run (to Albert Pujols) and never got anyone out. Now he’s pitching against the Angels again. He’s given up eight homers in his last 34 innings. Lefties hit him better than righties, but either should have a good shot off him tonight and the Angels are the best road hitting team in baseball.

Editor's Note: Rotoworld's partner FanDuel is hosting a one-day $35,000 Fantasy Baseball league for Monday night's MLB games. It's $25 to join and first prize is $5,000. Starts at 7:05pm ET on Monday. Here's the FanDuel link.

TOP SHELF

Mike Trout – LAA -  Mr. Trout has been slumping and it’s hard to trust him at the moment, but this is friggin Mike Trout and that means he’s always worth the risk, especially when his price falls out of the stratosphere. He has a great matchup against Workman tonight and will be on many of my GPP teams.

Yoenis Cespedes – BOS – Cespedes has three homers in his last seven games and has hit C.J. Wilson well in the past with a .400 average.  Wilson has a big road ERA of 5.57 and is giving up 1.57 HR/9 away from Anaheim and righties are hitting a .348 wOBA off him this season.

Jose Abreu – CWS – Abreu has gone into a bit of a power slump, but is still getting on base and has six hits in his last three games. Righties are hitting slightly better off Norris and he’s been much worse on the road. Oh, and you know Abreu can go yard at any time.

Also consider: David Ortiz – BOS, Freddie Freeman – ATL, Brian Dozier – MIN, Adam Jones - BAL

BULK PURCHASE

Robinson Cano – SEA - Lefties have a 30% Line Drive rate, a 16% HR/FB rate and a .395 wOBA against Jerome Williams this season, while Cano has a .412 wOBA and a 168 wRC+ against righties this season. I’d take that and roll at this price.

Kole Calhoun – LAA – Calhoun is hitting a good .369 wOBA against righties this season and I’ve discussed how horribly Workman has been of late. Calhoun has also been on fire with six multi-hit games in his last eight, including two homers. He has a real chance of going yard in this one.

Kyle Seager – SEA - Jerome Williams, as I mentioned in the Cano blurb, is not so good with the pitching to the left-handed hitters. Seager has a .385 wOBA against righties. He’s been worse on the road this year, but I think the matchup, park and price are too good.

Also consider: Mike Napoli – BOS, Devin Mesoraco – CIN, Jayson Werth – WAS, Alex Gordon – KC, Marlon Byrd – PHI, Albert Pujols – LAA, Ian Desmond - WAS

BARGAIN BIN

Matt Adams – STL – Adams has hit in five straight with three multi-hit games and faces a righty in Leake. This season he’s hitting a nice .375 wOBA against righties and Leake is giving up a .357 to lefties.

Conor Gillaspie – CWS – Gillaspie is hitting lefties for a .390 wOBA this season and is 4 for 5 off Bud Norris. Gillaspie hit a grand slam yesterday and for his price is set up to be a safe play today.

Mike Zunino – SEA – Zunino is a nice play for his price. He gets a home run pitcher in a hitter’s park and has 18 dingers on the year.

Also consider: John Jay – STL, Brad Miller – SEA, Darin Ruf – PHI, Adam Dunn - CW

STARTING PITCHER

Chris Sale – CWS – He’s a stud, no doubt about that and loves pitching at home. The Orioles big bats and some little bats have owned him in the past, so he is a little riskier than usual, but you know his upside and he’s easily the most dominant pitcher going today.

Jordan Zimmerman – WAS – Zimmerman has a 2.76 ERA at home this season and the D-backs are without Paul Goldschmidt. He should be a safe play against this Arizona team that scores just 3.6 runs per game on the road.

Justin Masterson – STL – Masterson is a cheap, boom or bust guy against the Reds at home tonight. He’s still making hitters miss and had a seven inning, three hit game in Miami his last time out. He is strictly a tournament play, but the Reds are much worse on the road and against righties this season.

Also consider:  Vance Worley – PIT, Ervin Santana - ATL
