The Philadelphia Flyers have gone through a very difficult stretch. They played Washington on Jan. 8th, Tampa Bay on Saturday, Boston on Monday, and St. Louis last night. With a 4-3 overtime win against the Blues, the Flyers managed to win three of those four games. That’s pretty impressive given the competition.
Philadelphia is right in the middle of the battle for a playoff spot. In fact, if the season ended today, the Flyers would barely clinch a Wild Card spot with their 25-16-6 record. Columbus is just two points behind in the battle for the final playoff spot.
The Flyers have two easier home games ahead of them against Montreal tonight and Los Angeles on Saturday before finishing off the pre-All-Star Game schedule by hosting Pittsburgh on Jan. 21st. So it wouldn’t be surprising to see Philadelphia in a decent position going into the break and that’s thanks in part to the recent stretch.
